In-built Web Cam works, but can't find the program...

Hi all,

I'm using the following notebook:

ASUS
PRO61Sseries

http://www.armada-pc.ru/eshop-images...PRO61S%201.jpg

I recently upgraded to Windows 7 but due to my bad skills in computers, I didn't do backups and so I had a bumpy road getting everything back.

Anywhos... Everything is working fine except that I can't find the program that activates my webcam. Don't get me wrong though... the webcam works because I use it on MSN with friends.

But there used to be a program that activates the webcam and you can record stuff with it. I have been searching around but can't seem to find it. I tried all the CD's that the laptop came with but they are mostly for Windows VISTA only (since this laptop was bought originally as a VISTA).

I don't think it's drivers since that implies that my webcam isn't working.

Can anyone help me on what to do?

Thanks

JHawks

Re: In-built Web Cam works, but can't find the program...

It's probably software that was packaged with the computer. I'm sure there's some open source software out there that works just as well, if not better than what you used before.

I can't seem to find anything about the webcam specifically. But since it works in MSN, you are right to assume that you are not looking for the drivers. Where you hoping to record videos with it?

Since the webcam is working, I wouldn't concern yourself too much with finding the specific software it came with, but rather find software that'll do what you are hoping to achieve with your webcam.

Yeah I was hoping to make some home videos or something for parents (I live far away)

OK... guess I have to find some softwares then.

Thanks for reply ^^

For open source software, check out SourceForge.net: Find and Develop Open Source Software

I'm certain you can find something on there. Not 100% sure how well it'll work on Windows 7, but I'm willing to bet that with Windows 7's compatibility mode something will work.

Hmm... most of the webcam-related softwares are for capturing images, not recording =(

I need to look around more I think.

Re: In-built Web Cam works, but can't find the program...

I would look for just video capturing software... things made for cameras in general. You might still be able to select the webcam as a device to capture from. Also, I believe Windows has a built-in program for this. Not sure about 7, but in Vista you could usually click on the Webcam in My Computer and capture video that way.

I could be remembering wrong though. I haven't used a webcam for a couple years.
