Re: Which Antivirus Software do you use ? Why?
I use Avira free antivirus....and a couple of on line ones for on demand scanning once a month.
I think Avira free (for personal use) is a very good a.v. And also have a small foot print. The only downside, is that the free version does'nt have any email scan.
The virus / malware catch rate are up with the best pay for antivirus programs.
If you download Malwarebyte's anti malware and Spybot SD as complimental, on demand malware / spyware scanners too. I think you have as good protection as you can get.
Also look at Comodo firewall free. Always gets over 95% in leak tests. Updates are avaliable 2-3 times per year about.

Re: Which Antivirus Software do you use ? Why?
The noscript and flash block extensions for firefox can make you practically bullet-proof if not so against infection via a web page exploit. I would say it's a more effective step than AV. At least as far as web browsing goes. AV programs can help, but they can't always keep up with the latest threats.
noscript can be a pain at first, but once you teach it to allow only what you want, it's great.
Flash block is useful in general. I find most flash on the web annoying. If you want to see something in flash, a simple click works. It's also a good default to have in case there is a flash exploit on a page. Noscript takes care of most of that by default though.

Using Linux I don't think about either computer viruses or anti-virus at the present. It's nice.

Re: Which Antivirus Software do you use ? Why?
That's essentially what I do. Windows XP only exists on my machine to itch my occasional gaming need. Wouldn't even bother with Windows if not for that.
I never bother with AV on Windows. User Knowledge will always trump virus scanners when it comes to securing a system. But, not everyone is an uber-geek.

I'm currently using Kaspersky. I got a great deal on it through work. Otherwise I'd normally use either Avira or Avast.

Nod32 at home, it's less resource consuming, compared with symantec in my company
and with a free trojan remover

Re: Which Antivirus Software do you use ? Why?
I only use Spybot SD.
Before I had it, I had many problems with my computer being slow and the occasional virus or something.
I had one particularly bad virus and somehow found my way to Spybot.
Not only did it take care of the problem easily, but I haven't had a problem since.

My vote is for AVAST! Since last 5 years I am using avast. But never faced any virus related problem. I am using its home edition. Also it is FREE!

I also use Avast, it's great, but I also use malwarebytes and spybot s&d.
Ion Silverbolt brings up a good point about noscript; it definitely improves browser security like none other. If you're using firefox noscript is a must.
I also recommend PeerGuardian 2. This is a free ip blocking program which allows you to download up to date block lists for spyware, adware, trojans, and unwanted ads.

About PeerGuardion 2... It might block some of the sites you use (like university sites) And they can be mistaken for adware ip addresses or trackers. In that case, you just have to allow access to them.

Re: Which Antivirus Software do you use ? Why?
I use AVG free in conjunction with Ad-Aware and Zone Alarm Pro. No issues with viruses for about 4 years running. Zone alarm free is also very good.
