Which threads did i post in?

i would like the forum message icons to reflect if i have posted in that thread.

if they do already, someone point out the difference to me.

does classic have it?

yeah, I've been wondering why this forum doesn't use dot folders. Didn't we used to have them enabled?

I removed it long ago coz it meant more queries to the MySQL db ... I'll see how good it performs in vB3, then I'll reinstate it ... maybe...

(too lazy to create customized dotted folders...)

i dont know jack about databases. but i figure it would suck resources if it queried (ok, i really dont know what that word means, asked for?) for the entire word association thread.

but is if it was easier to check if we were one of the first 20? posters that would help alot. most long threads are memorable, and the only ones i ever forget are ones that i posted within 5 first posts, so the number may be variable.

but i dont know the structure of the database, whether (optimaly) its assembled thread by thread or on post numbers and then assembled into the thread when viewed.

a query is a call to the database, and the database is a huge file on the server that contains all the information on the forums... so having too much queries means many calls to the database, which can cause a big server load if the queries pile up.

When a person clicks to see a list of topics in a forum, that page generates 14 queries. Multiply that by the number of people visiting the forum at any given time, and it can stack up pretty quick. In vBulletin 2, dotted folders added 2-3 queries per topic list in each forum category. I haven't tried enabling it in vBulletin 3 so I don't know if it has the same number.

But I'll check this out this week, and enable it if it doesn't add more than 1 query per page...

so if say someone was really drunk last night and poosted would this tell them where they posted?

kuz that happens alot to certain people on here(wont name the ots drunks)
