since we are moving forward in internet technology
is it possible we could get allow larger avatars? most sites these days allow up to 100, 120, or even 164px for max dimensions now. 164x164 would be a bit much, but even 100 would really be pretty sweet.
I could see it possibly conflicting with the 100s of avatars you've uploaded to its default database over the years, but just puttin it out there, mang
edit: actually, 164 seems like it would be doable since the width on that gray colored join date/locations/posts bar below my avatar appears to be about 170px

The old maximum height/width was 64x64 ... I have upped it to 100x100, but I don't think I'll increase it any further at this time. 100x100 is plenty big compared to our old 64x64 limit before.
120x120 is reserved for admins, mods and staff  As for 164x164, never gonna happen... I personally think that boards with huge avatars are a bit tacky

is it possible you could update the forums to allow .png avatars?
I added a really clean shot of jehuty and it got totally jpeg-ified and then it got giffed and it looked horrible, so I saved it as a gif first, but still it has not reached its maximum flavor potential

The "GIF/JPG conversion" is hardcoded into the forum script... I'll have to find a way to "hack" it to allow PNG... we'll see what happens...
