The Political Compass

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: Shalome

I know some people are sick of web tests.. but if you are one of those people, instead of making snide comments, just go read a different thread!

I found this link, which contains a test to show you where on the political "compass" you are, based on your beliefs. I thought it was pretty interesting.

http://www.digitalronin.f2s.com/pol...naire.pl?page=1

I got:
Economic Left/Right: -4.62
Authoritarian/Libertarian: -7.85

Posted by: Null Actor

And which link would that be?

Posted by: Shalome

The link I originally forgot to put in the post because I apparently can't talk on the phone and copy-and-paste at the same time.

Economic Left/Right: -4.88
Authoritarian/Libertarian: -7.23

Let go of your hatred. . . .feel the Force flowing through you. . . .

"Take your weapon and strike him down!"

Economic Left/Right: -2.50
Authoritarian/Libertarian: -5.59

Ghandi's my buddy!

Posted by: AngstMerchant

Gandhi is the man! A most progressive thinker but I couldn't handle hanging out with him. Vegan diets are deadly. . .he ripped one in the car once and it was like Auschwitz in a sedan.

Posted by: nocode

economic left/right -4.38
authoritarian/libertarian -5.54

so far......seem's like we've got similar views on things.

Posted by: tkron

-3.88
-1.95

Near Ghandi
Clare Short

If enough people do this poll, I might turn it into a graph.

Posted by: Kdr Kane

Slanted graph, then.

Posted by: Chako

Your political compass

Economic Left/Right: -4.12
Authoritarian/Libertarian: -5.23

Posted by: Cheese

Economic Left/Right: -2.25
Authoritarian/Libertarian: -6.21

Posted by: Gunslinger

Economic Left/Right: -3.25
Authoritarian/Libertarian: -4.72

Posted by: JANNA

economic 5.00 authoritarian -0.15

a lot of those questions were leading and not appropriate to a good study on the issue since the whole thing is slanted to the socialist liberal/one world view argument.

Posted by: Cheese

yet the results you got Janna are exactly what I expected...

Posted by: Spider

Hah!

Some questions like this one:

Many personal fortunes are made by people who simply manipulate money and contribute nothing to their society.

seemed a bit vauge to me. I don't see how that is an opinion question. Personal fortunes ARE made by moving money around. Brokers and (as far as I know. moving money from stock to stock) people like that do it.

Posted by: redwench

its the second half of the statement thats the important part gb

Posted by: Ghetto Blasta

Economic Left/Right: -1.38
Authoritarian/Libertarian: -5.23

Sorta close to Ghandi, sorta not. Not someone I'd follow politically though.

Posted by: Gunslinger

You mean, this wasn't the perfect study?

*gasp*

Lies.

Posted by: Shalome

Heh... I know it seemed a bit slanted towards the left, because I found myself questioning "how could anyone answer anything BUT how *I'm* answering this one?!?" -- and as most of us know, my social and political bent is leftist.

Then again, the results are working out just about how I thought they would.

Posted by: Chako

These online test do not meet the vigorous scientific standards that would make them meaningful..

They are fun. Nothing more. Unless you wish to add stupid to the quotient.

Posted by: LT

-2.12
-1.74

Does this mean if I go back and answer every other question Agree, then use Disagree for the others, I could end up exactly dead center? Boy I am tempted...

Yes, it is for fun only - some of those questions were very slanted and ignored some obvious points. Gives you a chance to be really outrageous if you want . I can't wait for the graph, Shal hehe.

Posted by: Digitalphatman

heres another one to add to your graph, although the results were not as close to what i had thought they would be.

Economic Left/Right: 3.38
Authoritarian/Libertarian: -2.36

Nope. Very close to the center, but not quite. I forgot to copy the coordinates but it was at point (1,2). I think I might have messed up the pattern at the start of a new page somewhere though.

Economic Left/Right: -1.25

everybody thinks the same.

Posted by: JANNA

if fortunes cannot be made by contributing to society then explain people like black and decker, bill gates, ford, marconi etc. most fortunes are NOT made by swindling people. that is purely a leftist bent on how the world works. it is a very narrow interpretation of econimcs based on only a few cases. i find it surprising that the leftists revere and cherish the kennedy's and that family contributed nothing to society or america and primarily made their money by swindling people. yet they are leftist icons.... go figure.

Posted by: Ghetto Blasta

The problem is, it's not one way or the other. Fortunes can by made by contributing to society, but they can also be made by moving money around. Note that moving money around does not necesarily mean swindling. They can be two very different things.

Posted by: redwench

guys, youre looking at this wrong. just consider the statements to be true or false, in your opinion of course. thats the only logical way to interpret this particular test, since there are no degrees of opinion allowed. basically, if any part of the statement is false, then the entire thing is. dont think so hard.

Posted by: Ghetto Blasta

There aught to be a neutral button. Because I for one definatly could have used it on a few issues.
