Leave it to Microsoft to think of somethin this clever...
Microsoft is using Xbox's most anticipated title to promote the launch of its own Windows Media Player 9 software. The official trailer for Halo 2 will be available for download starting at 6:00 PM PST today (September 4, 2002)
I checked out the trailer for myself, and while it showed no actual gameplay, the trailer was still pretty cool.

If this won't get people to install WMP9, we don't know what will...

Yeah, let me install this piece of shit media player so I can watch 1 movie.
Microsoft sure knows how to get people to install their software.
I'll wait for the game, movies aren't the same as playing it anyway.

Releasing a trailer of non in-game footage 16 months before the game is scheduled for release. Great Idea
I love how on Madonion and other forums people are saying that Halo 2 is a Doom 3 Killer, even though they have only seen a min or 2 of non in-game footage of halo 2.

That movie is most likely realtime rendered, in game.
It may not be gameplay footage, but I doubt it's prerendered. There were a lot of little flaws in the rendering which would not have happened if it were prerendered in a graphics package.
Edit: And there are plenty of quicktime downloads in high res for the movie, you don't need WMP9.
Also, I'd bet money on Halo 2 being a Doom 3 killer... gameplay-wise if nothing else. Id will have a hard time topping Halo, let alone topping the sequel.

I'm not much of a fan of Media Player, but after just completing Halo for the first time, I had to watch the trailer last night.
