Well come monday i have to chose a topic for a paper in my college english class (ugh). The only rules for the paper are as follows:
1) You must do 33% reserch your self (like go out and poll people or some such thing)
2) must interview atleast 2 experts, and justify why they are experts
3) you can not pick a topic you know much about
4) It must be atleast 15 pages in length
any sujestion guys?

hmmmm......i guess you would have to start by listing some topics you don't know much about.

oh, something to do with crime is good. its not hard to find a police officer or whatnot to help you with an interview.

Are you a freshman? Interview upperclassman about their freshman year! You wouldn't know anything about a freshman year of college, since you haven't been through it yet. They are experts, since they all made it through! Poll people about what they remember most about freshman year (hard classes, big papers, feeling lost, partying, bad dormmate, etc).
You could easily turn that into 15 pages.

Just write about what you love.
I poured out a 19 page history of The Doors for an english class where I would have passed by making a poster of things I liked. Why did I choose to write a paper (especially a 19 page monster)? Because I liked doing it. I wrote the majority of the paper in one night. I had over 25 pages, but after reviewing, I had to do some editing.
As far as the third rule for the assignment.... just break it

Do what I did on my freshman term paper...
Do a research on the english curriculum itself (in your school, at least), and how it has improved/degraded in the past 5 or so years, and the reasons for its apparent change (or lack of change) during that time. Tackle the kinds of homework being given to students, or the kind of books being assigned to read, or the type of tests being given. You can easily do a survey on it...
As for your interviewees, choose the most knowledgeable (or the oldest) english professors in your school (in my case, I chose our head of the Department of Languages) ... you can choose other interviewees, but DON'T FORGET to include the teacher who gave you your assignment in the "experts" list
Easily 20 pages ... and that's without references...

If you're thinking of writing something related to a computer-related major, there's quite a few people on these boards who are/were comp sci majors, or who are employed in the computer industry.

Im really not sure what do it on, if go related to comps...

How about doing it on methods to bring in supplemental revenue.
Specifically, how the textbook industry fronts through the colleges. The colleges in turn force students to buy books (only expensive ones) that are not necessarily the best. Ask some teachers if they are required to submit a certain number of required books for the students to purchase from a predetermined list.
Prove that the college is using the bookstore as a supplement to income. Most of the time, the teachers have little leeway in determining which books they want the students to use for the course.
You get the idea. Sorry, my daughter just started college and I'm remembering my little peeves about school.

ugh books!! im attending a community college and im spending over 500 in books. thats almost 50% of my tuition.

oh not to mention the fact that i cant buy any of them used as they come with cds of software or such and most of which is pointless/useless

For some reson keneth that sounds like a bad idea, id like to write a paper that will not offend my teacher

Probably get your teacher in trouble if you did.

would probably be the type of term paper I'd do if I was in college ... I like putting my teachers on the spot ... besides, the college I went to gave extra points to research papers with balls

*thinks that would a very unique research paper*

Computer science would be the easiest.. since you have a great source here.. and polling would be a snap with the forum polling system.. definetly what I would do it on..
Only had to write one paper like that for my AA.. wanted to do Kevin Mitnick.. but the instructor didn't know who he was.. thought perfect.. no you will know.. but in order to get the approval I had to explain who Kevin Mitnick is.. and that nix'd the idea quickly.. instructor is highly religous and a "do the right thing at all costs" type.. so I did it on Tim Berners-Lee... made it interesting.. and with the net there was tons of info...
Computer related is my vote..

Kevin Mitnick wasn't the innocent many claimed him to be.
I saw him on some PBS documentary. He was quite apologetic about his activities. His obsession made him ignore his wife and kids. He eventually lost them through divorce.
