Stupid Pictures

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Grrrr all the paths to all the files on my site work but some of them are relative and for some reason if the image doesnt load instantly it stops trying...

Everyonce in a while like maybe 1 outta 5 refresses one or two pictures wont make it with the rest of em but if I refresh again they appear.

Is there anyway I can tell it to load all my darn images?

Well Scav, it's sometimes more of a browser caching problem than an actual problem with the coding...

There are only two easy ways to somewhat fix this: Make the pages non-cacheable (i.e. make it have an .SHTML extension), or try to put in as few images in a page as possible...

Well its already an shtml file, and Im not sure what you mean by few images, a page that ive seen an image missing on before was less then 6k in size including the ssi file the javascript file, the css file, the acutual web document and the images. Image wise there is something like 30 images. That shouldn't be a problem I wouldnt imagine...

It could be my comp or browsers I suppose. My computer has been acting really funny lately and as its a hardware / software thing I wont get into it too much here but its not uncommon for it to crash at least 2 or 3 times a day from either cuteftp, notepad, or both netscape and ie. Im pretty sure it isnt a virus unless someone hacked into my comp which they wouldn't and i havent downloaded any questionable material since my last format that i didnt already have before (hehehe) so those wouldnt be the problem either.

Ive only had my images not come up a couple times so maybe im just worrying more about it then i should.

Hehe, it's a normal occurrence, although I'm not sure if it's the browser's problem or the page coding...

In this site (OTS), I have experienced the main title bar on top not load on some pages sometimes (I had to right click and "show picture" everytime).

What I meant by "fewer" images is just that - fewer images. I suspect (and this is only an assumption) that the browser is trying to load all the images at the same time and squeeze the bandwidth, so pages that do not get called up fast enough are left broken, until you right click on it and "show picture" ... This has only happened to me on sites I make that have lots of images on the page. It has never happened to me on a page that had two or three images on it. Of course, your results may vary...

Then again, I have experienced fewer broken images in Netscape on the same page, so I guess the browser caching system may also be a factor...
