Hello Everyone,
I have a CD Burner with NTI CD Maker software. Some of my cd's are getting scratched up and I want to make backup copies of them.Well, some of them I have no trouble with, but others go so far and say Illegal Request and wont copy.Is there any way to fix this problem or am I just stuck if something happends to the original CD?Thanks.........Troubled.....

You can get cd scratch repair kits. Just check your local computer shop.

Why do I have the feeling that thats not what he was looking for (sorry I just had to say that)

Well congratulations, you one upped me. I know full well what he was asking, but since the root of his problem had to do with scratched cds, I offered a solution that doesn't involve the copying of cds. Which is, for the most part, a quick way to piracy.

yes but he could in all honestly have cd's that arnt copy righted ie something he made... and he could just want to be more organized and re-do um all...

but more then likely you guys are right and hes trying to find a way around some piracy block...

No I am not trying to find a way to beat a piracy block.I was having trouble with my kids computer when I tried to restore it using the restore cd that CAME WITH THE SYSTEM when I bought it new.I already have the cd scratch repair kit and used it on the cd and it repaired it,but I was trying to make a backup copy of MY restore cd so that I would not have this problem again,THANK YOU!!!(P.S. So, NO you guys were not right on this one.)

Most CD drives will not copy all CDs due to protection mechanisms on the CD.

Some CD drives will copy those same CDs. So, there is a difference in the drives.

I just ordered a Lite-On LTR-48125 for just this reason. I prefer to use a working copy of my master CDs.

man, i know what your dealing with. my kids have destroyed several game cd's like that. i have been successful making backup copies for some of the games, but some games just will not work from a copied disc. i wish they would make kid's games work in a way that you would not have to use the cd to play the game!

theres no reason a restore cd should become damaged. you only need it on rare occasions, if ever. the normal wear and tear on most cds just shouldnt occur.

and that sounds like much more than the restore cd my friend.

Redwench, The CD did have a problem because it would not copy all of the files to the hard drive because of scratching.I fixed the cd with a scratch repair kit and it took care of the problem, but I wanted to copy it so I would have an extra. If you had young children like I have playing on a computer you would see the often need for a restore cd.LOL.Thanks...Troubled.(its their computer so I just let them go on it and fix things with the restore cd when things get messed up.)P.S. It is legal to make a backup copy of a cd that you purchase I believe. Thanks again...
