sexist technicians

ok, after having intermittant serious problems with my phone lines for several days, i finally called the phone company when i started losing service altogether. this is after i trouble-shot what i could, checking connections, removing ghetto wiring, etc.

tried the service reps suggestion of unplugging everything connected to the phone lines and letting it sit for a while, no difference. called back and had a repair ticket issued. so far, phone company is fine. shortly thereafter, the line cleared up, and i had no further problems.

well, maintenance tech got here, and proceded to lie twice that i know of, and quite possibly a third time. what, you ask, did he lie about? the biggest whopper he came up with was that a nut was loose on the outside connection. he actually claimed that one was about to fall off. which simply wasnt true, i had checked and reconnected the wires 2 days before. and used pliers to tighten the nuts. my antennae went up at this.
he next said there was a short on the interior wiring, bad enough that it was on the verge of a service interruption. now this is the iffy one. there may be a short, but its nowhere near that severe, because the line had cleared up, i currently have no problems. he had me unplug the comp and phone, and that cleared up the "short". now, keep in mind i had tested for several hours the night before: the phone in different jacks, different phones in different jacks, and completely disconnected the computer. none of which made any difference. so while i may have a mild short, its not causing the problem.
i brought up the subject of dsl then, because the other 2 wires werent connected, and i wanted to see what hed say. he didnt even mention that id need to connect the other wires for dsl, but he did say that the short (on a wire that dsl doesnt use) would affect it.
now, the last one could be ignorance. the second may even be partially true. but he told a whopper to start with, so i can believe a word he said. and im betting that he wouldnt have pulled any of this stuff if my gender were male. condescending bastard didnt want to admit that the telco lines had been acting up. and yes, ill look for a short, but i doubt one exists. a short inside wouldnt let me stream for hours, then kill the phone line entirely, then let me stream again after a few more hours. particularly since i had a good connection at the same time hes claiming a severe short.
guys, this is what annoys the hell out of women: assuming we are idiots because our genitalia are internal. ah, i feel much better now.

just typical of a woman to generalize something about men just coz of one man's assumption of customer ignorance shoulda titled this one sexist technician without an "s"

I think the technician just assumed you're ignorant ... it just so happened that you were a woman...

Isn't it also a little sexist on your part to assume all males are sexist?

im not assuming all males are sexist. i just felt the need to rant about one in particular. and in my experience, the majority of males in technical positions assume that a woman knows less than a man about these things. hell, various consumer groups and governments prove it on a regular basis. male salesmen and technicians regularly cheat women on car sales and repair, which are checked in sting operations by most state fraud divisions plus the some of the well known consumer advocates like consumers union and good housekeeping. one can only imagine the rampant abuse in less watched industries, like computer and electronic repair and sales.
but i digress. ive run into enough technicians to know when one is being honest and respectful, and when one isnt. this one definitely was condescending. and he wouldnt keep his job long if he lied like that to all the customers.
anyway, im sure no one who reads these forums is sexist. or wont admit to it anyway.

A lot of males are sexist, but I think they're slowly starting to fade away. By the way, I'm male, but anyway, I used to work for a warehouse (don't wanna reveal the name since my uncle still works there) and let me tell you, a lot of sexist people there as far as management (not my two bosses but those that worked in our office), women were not allowed to use power equipment before OSHA came in and they still can't get certified on towmotors or other heavy duty machines. A lot of women aren't even allowed to do the heavier work there! So those women know how ya feel Red, even if it was just coincidence that you were female.
