Do I suck? or do my partners?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I don't get it. I think I'm pretty good. On most Random team games I play I'm either 1 or 2 in the rankings. But when I play Arranged team games I almost always lose. I think my partners are pretty good. And it seems almost every team we play has mass shamans and necros which is getting rather annoying. Please help as I would like to help out my suffering record without starting a new account. And without not play Arranged team games anymore.

Well AT games are usually going to be harder. You are facing people that are friends with each other and play together a lot.

What race do you usually play? NE can easily stop necros and shamans by getting dryads.

I play NE and I usually get a mix of hunts and dryads. I will typically have around 7-10 dryads in a full army and the rest hunts. Along with a Priestess with starfall.

Do you upgrade/expand? It is paramount to do both. 90% of team games is working with your partner so try to help each other as much as possible to win.

I do all that. I guess I'll just try to do a better job of it.

All I get is Huntresses and a bunch of archers... That works well for me.

Posted by: Bishlopim

The last time I went all huntresses my opponent had wyverns. heh.

what I do sometimes on small maps like Lost Temple, I go around and kill all their creeps so their hero can't level up. Night Elf is a very fast race and can cover distances more quickly than any other race. That strat works well for me.

If ur facing lots of Necro's skeletons then just buy all the wands of negations you can get. Free exp for you.

Ok, thanks Nfested, I will try that.

Upgrading is no use if all you have is 5 huntresses.

Expanding is no use if all you have is a small army when you encounter ur opponents. It takes at least 800 gold to expand and you could've used that 800 to build more troops.

Actually what works great against skeletons are wisps. Just make your wisps explode on them, that'll do deadly damage.

Yea that'll work too i guess, but skeletons are free and wisps cost gold (and you wouldn't want to waste ur whole economy on some skeletons). And wands (which cost gold too) are easier to use than having to position ur wisps carefully. And I don't usually make lots of wisps just to detonate skeletons.

On a similar note, a good way to detonate wisps is to position him so that the skeletons are in between the wisp and a tree. Tell your wisp to harvest lumber on that tree, and he'll "magically" go through every unit. When the wisp reaches the skeletons you want to detonate on, detonate it. This may sound complicated to do, but it's easy and works great if there is a large battle with units blocking skeletons/elementals/mana casters you want to detonate on.

I do not like to detonate a lot of my wisp, only 1 or two if necessary. If you are facing an Undead player with Necros you should not even let him be able to raise the dead. Just got a bunch of Dryads and some wands of negations and they won't be able to do anything.

Posted by: Nfested

I would only detonate wisps if I have a battle at my base and wisps are about to die. I don't bring wisps to my enemies base just to detonate...

Wisps don't cost a lot though, and they're effective against necros as well you know.

It's so fun watching the skeletons drop like flies, isn't it?

The wand of negation can also take out wards, right?

A lot of people play arranged teams, meaning you choose your players. Check out FUD on battle.net. He is a good player !

To me, the more paramount reason for a loss in your case(s), is a lack of flexibility in your strategy. Don't be so rigid. "I'm going straight hunts/archers" or "My necros are going to own everyone" is not the way to go if you want to win. It helps to constantly have an eye on your opponent. That means scouting, GOOD scouting. Put yourself in a position where you can adjust quickly if you need to.

Those are the concepts that will help you win.

You just told me not to do all the things I'd usually do

But yeah you're deffinitely right, scouting is very important, because it's the only way that you know what you're up against. Things you want to pay attention to when you scout in particular are expansions. Without at least one expansion you can basically never win, unless your opponent isn't smart enough to make his own until it is too late.

The main idea is to control the flow of the game, and make your opponent afraid of you, putting him in a defensive position. Once your opponent is no longer offensive-minded you are on your way to victory.

It is also a good idea to build as many units as you can all the time, and get as many upgrades as you can. Don't go for hi-tech units though, because they take too much time.
