Was anyone in the beta test for this game? Ive become interested in it recently. I hadnt even heard about it til about a week ago, and it looks cool, but havent heard much about the game itself gameplay wise. Also, has there been any announcement of a free trial to play? Im thinking about getting it, but theres no way I will get into an MMO without playing it first.

Yea, im in the beta test. Its pretty freakin awesome, but i still don't consider it worth the monthly fee that you will have to play once it goes retail. Basically you fly a ship of your design as a caracter you design as part of 1 of 6 different groups around a galaxy, warping to your different destinations. You can exit your ship and walk around spacestations. If you ever played the MUD Avatar, its kinda like that except with pictures, action and a outerspace theme. Hope that helps, if you want to know any more just ask.

Arent there 3 races, not 6?

When you're flying can you attack other people and/or things like in the SWG space expansion?

The Breakdown:

-----
3 Races:

Terran
Progen
Jenquai
-----
9 Classes/Ships:

Terran Scout - Post Launch
Terran Tradesman
Terran Enforcer
Progren Warrior
Progen Sentinel
Progen Privateer - Post Launch
Jenquai Defender
Jenquai Explorer
Jenquai Seeker - Post Launch
-----

Each Class/Ship has its own skills, designs, hardpoints, weakpoints, etc. The race goes with the ship. Each race has its own history and goals.

Terran - With a good mix of speed and firepower, the terran enforcer make up some of the most elite of the warriors, and thier tradesman large cargo hold makes them the most elite of the traders.

Progen - Suped up terrans. Thier warrior strength doesn't go unoticed, as thier warriors are the most elite in the galaxy. Thier scout and trader poressions also show these traits with their multiple weapon mounts and high defence. Strong as they may be however, they are the slowest of the slow.

Jenquai - Peacful monk type people, who rely more on stealth and tactics, then brute strength. The jenquai explorers are the very best, with their high speed and stealth, they can go anywhere, at any time. The downside to this, is that they have weak defence, and low amounts of weapon mounts.

I can't speak for the Post Launch classes yet, since they aren't out yet, even though the games been launched. PVP is supposed to be in about 20% of all sectors in the galaxy (neutral Zones), but that hasn't happened yet.

The only things I haven't like about the game so far, is the inability to rotate 360 degrees and the click and forget attack style.

There is a free 30 day trial with the game. You can also purchase game cards, instead of using yoru credit card or check.

Is it worth buying and paying a monthly fee for? Yes.

Just ignore tmy high amounts of grammer and spelling errors.

Got it yesterday after I saw a review of it on Extended Play. Loving it so far. Still don't really know what I am doing but it sure reminds me of Elite (only with beautiful graphics) but I haven't really interacted with too many and the chat is full of the usual whiners. I've been mining, exploring and just made level 8 (a milestone for a Jenquai explorer). Most recommend starting with a warrior so of course I didn't do it..hehe. 4 meg patch once you get the game installed. I haven't had one problem so far in 9 hours of playing. And I saw game cards for it at EB.

I was in the beta for like 6 months and I got bored after awhile. I'd hold out till SWG to find out which space game is better. The only real downside to E&B imo is not being able to fight on foot, hell at least make bar brawls/fights possible. Flying is fun and all, but there is just too much of it even though that is the whole point of the game.

Also if you are sick of games like EQ then you might want to try this because it is different. Also another plus would be the voiced NPCs. I loved that on some of the characters.

SWG wont be in space until one year after release, unless they decide to release the expansion early.

Thats one reason I am not looking forward to SWG.

For now E&B is holding my interest but who knows if it will keep it 3 months down the road. Most playing it probably don't enjoy the part I do which is the exploration and trade part of it. Although I am just getting going I like the enormous feel to the game, the dangerous trade runs and all the interesting tech. Most just want to blow stuff up and level as fast as possible. (you know..that way you can sit around and look cool and talk of how bored you are..hehe).

update: This is the first game since UO that I didn't have to focus on combat to level. So far only 2 of my 16 levels have come from combat. The rest have come from trade runs and exploration.

3 weeks into the game and I am still loving it and they haven't even started any of the planned content yet (Oct 30).

I quit E&B today. It was fun while it lasted, but personally, I'm waiting for EVE Online , Planet Side , and Star Wars Galaxies. These are the next MMORPG's on my agenda. In the mean time though, I’ll be playing Anarchy Online again, since it's begging to appeal to me again.
