I got a few problems :
It won't shut off and while it tries the Windows is shutting down screen gets all purple and black and green then I get a blue screen saying theres an error in the VXD files and then it freezes so I need to press the On/off switch.
2nd : I got Fix it 4.0 from On-track a while later not intending to fix none of my problems I install it get it to work look through the utilities and find PC-Diagnostics so I do the series of tests and everything passses except for my 256 of RAM (its AZENRAM (DDR) by the way). I am hooked to a a7v333 from ASUS too
So a few days later I re DO the test and I still get errors on my results...
I open the case and let her off unplugged the mobo from power supply and put the RAM in DDR 2 the next one after the one I turn it all back on nothing happens the machine seems to be bugged so then I notice the HD light on ... I turn it off..
Then I go to socket 3 the next one after the 2nd...
And I get it on the BIOS screen opens telling me my CPU worked at an abnormal speed last start-up so i do OK and let it start everything seems alright until now...
Except the HD light staying oN!
Then I turn it off returning it to its normal spot (the RAM)
and probably figured it started turning on since I changed the RAM spot so I put it back in the first slot and it still does it nothing has changed and THIS TIME MY CDRW AND MY CD-ROM IS NOT DETECTED!
I will try checking the bios and and restarting my comp b4 I get too far with the CD ROM cases but try to help me out it would save me a load of time instead of sending it bac kfor repairs. Well its guaranteed but still I want it ok THX!

I am a little confused on what your problem is but if you said your RAM failed a test that may mean bad RAM.
Try another stick of RAM.

your post doesnt make much sense, im afraid. but since you appear to have a myriad of problems that appear and disappear suddenly, id suggest the following: let your comp set completely powered down overnight. unplug it, turn off the surge or ups, whatever. then restart it and see what you have. a format and os reinstall would be next on the list.

Surge or ups?
And its a Win98 on a 1.5 Ghz its about a month old using up 1.7 GBs out of 45!
Format isn't necessary now is IT?! I hope it aint but I will if its to fix ram adn cdrom problems lol

What I mean is the problem I get is when I shut it off I get a blue screen saying a VxD error occurred and it freezes at the WINDOWS IS SHUTTING DOWN screen thingy and I tried changing my ram stick to diffrent slits but one of them doesnt respond at all and one of them is about the same as the first ...
And since I opened it the HD light stays on.

well, something is wrong with your os. have you updated it since installing? either that or your motherboard has major problems. in which case, youd have to format and reinstall anyway.
the light is probably connected wrong, if the hd isnt actually accessing while its on, dont worry about it. if you built it yourself, just reseat everything and reconnect the connections.
but a one month old computer acting up is very odd. since its so new, you might consider just returning the mobo and ram and starting again.

Your RAM is almost definately bad. If you ran Fix-it and it said the stick was bad, changing the slot won't do anything. Borrow a stick from a friend to try it, or just send it back and get a new one if you can.
The blue screen is caused by the bad RAM. I had a couple bad sticks for a year, and would always get bluescreens, sometimes every hour. Then I ran Goldmemory and it said it was bad so i sent them back. No problems since.

that shutdown error can also be caused by modern HDs high caches. its a known problem with win98, and can be patched. try that first.

Thx but the light started staying on since I tried changing slots...
And the comp was built at a shop close to my housse where he sells only brand new company ordered parts another prob I have is IRQs its a mess I am sending for a check up this week tell me why the Light stays on after not touching anything but the ram....
Thx guys your putting me on the right track,,
Though I aint sure about borrowing ram cuz none of my friends I have, use PC/2700 DDR THX

if it was built at a shop, take it in and have them fix it. theres obviously something wrong with it, and it should be within the warranty period.

I agree with Red, take it in and let them get a headache over it.
If you do want to try something, you could reset the BIOS.
It sounds like you have more serious problems, but you never know.

Ya its about 1 year of guarantee
I hope they can solve it without having to format or change the mobo

I agree with the others, you most likely have a memory problem.
As for the hard disk, are you using MS Office? There is an option in Office that by default starts a background utility called FASTFIND. It is used for document searches, etc. On my W98 laptop it started using my disk virtually constantly for hours. I turned it off (using MSCONFIG).
