every time i join/start a game (even single player) i lag so bad i can barely move... it just started doing this a day or two ago... any ideas?

Posted by: Canis Lupus

We need more info if you want us to help you... what are you system specs? cpu speed? memory? video card? operating system? internet speed?

Post back with more details

Posted by: rokpyro

windows ME, p3 1ghz, 128 megs ram, crap video card (intel or something), 56k dialup... i know, i know... but i've been playing for about 2 years and its never run like this except for the occasional bout of lag... this has been constant for 2 days and in single player too

Posted by: redwench

well, if its single player too, its definitely your computer. your video card might be dying. are you running anything new in the last 2 days? did you dl a trainer or bot?

Posted by: rokpyro

yeah, i installed pbot recently... crap... should i just reinstall diablo??

Posted by: redwench

um, run a good virus scan first. maybe 2 different ones if possible. if they find anything, fix it. then try getting rid of the bot, and uninstalling d2. id throw in a scandisk and defrag just because theyre neat. then reinstall d2.
oh, if the virus scans turn up anything, as soon as you remove whatever it is, change your passwords on any bnet accounts you have.

Posted by: rokpyro

tried a virus scan, deleted the bot, scandisk, defrag, reinstalled d2... and its still crap

You could be experiencing line problems, have your phone company run a line check.

Posted by: rokpyro

single player is just as bad

Posted by: redwench

ok, time to check the video card then. it could be overheating or dying.

What programs are running in the background? Are you running any anti-virus software?

Posted by: rokpyro

sounds comforting, anything in particular i should look for when i rip my comp apart? other than flames...

Posted by: rokpyro

not anymore... i was running nav

Posted by: Fred

It’s gotta be the card. I’ve had countless Diablo problems with my crappie “Intel graphics controller”, assuming that’s the card you have. After months of trying everything twice including an Fdisk, I went out and bought a cheap 32 meg gforce (like 70 bucks). And never had another problem.

Posted by: Canis Lupus

And make sure you aren't running any other application at the same time, especially intensive ones like ICQ, your email program, etc...

Posted by: rokpyro

yup, "intel graphics controller"... go Dell, i think they planted timebombs in their damn parts, my mouse JUST went too

Posted by: Fred

Ya, my piece of junk was a Gateway. That evil thing drove me crazy then to OTS.

Posted by: Fred

Try updating the cards drivers?

Posted by: rokpyro

updated the drivers, still no improvement

Posted by: redwench

while running diablo, check your system resources, and using a separate program (not windows) check your cpu and ram usage. if none of those seem unusually high, its the vid card.

Posted by: Fred

Like I said before my Intel Chip bit the dust after about a year and a half. The real bummer was when I found out that it could not be removed from the AGP slot and I had to find a decent PCI card. If yours is the same as mine then you mite have to get a PCI card also.

Posted by: rokpyro

got a video card from a friend... i cracked open my comp and found out i have NO AGP SLOTS!!
i'm considering buying a new motherboard with an AGP slot instead of a vid card...

Posted by: Fred

A new computer my be in your future, but a PCI card would do Diablo justice.

Isn't PindleBot a cheat??

Posted by: taco_fox

Yep

Posted by: srmd2

It has been laggy for a week or so; many people have been complaining. Also, games have been continuously crashing. They may be having server issues; they have a few posts on their site about troubleshooting.

Doesn't explain single player though.

Posted by: rokpyro

got an old 4meg vid card from a friend, i should be able to run diablo though right?

Posted by: Fred

I would assume so, as long as it's a DirectX compatible. If the card isn’t that great I hope the rest of your system can handle extra burden.

Posted by: taco_fox

Diablo II system requirements say 3D acceleration is optional. However, they recommend that if you do have one, it should be at least 8MB.

Posted by: rokpyro

well, new card, still the same problems... i'm gonna wipe the hd and reinstall, see if that helps anything
