What could it be?

Seems quite a few of the late games are running choppy. GTA3 still chops alot, and the most recent is the black hawk down demo. Ive tried overclocking my card but if I clocked too much I would get sparkles on the screen. Hitman 2 was also pretty choppy when the action started. It would run in slo-motion sometimes.
Specs
Windows 98
AMD Athlon XP 1700+
256DDR
Mad Dog Predator 128 SiS 315 chipset
Sound Blaster Audigy Gamer
DirectX 8.1b
The only thing I can think of the this cheasy video card ( $85) Other than that I dont think I should have any problems with these games.
Ive clocked the card to 190mhz engine and 162mhz memory. Games still ran a choppy but I saw black sparkles on screen. Default is 166 and 143. Should I have gotten a better card?

What is your video card?

I would have spent an extra 40$ and got a GeForce 4 4200 128mb.

That's if he was paying in American dollars..... the card would still be fairly good is he was paying 85$ US, and shouldn't be that choppy.....

How much Ram is on the card?
I don't know anything about SIS cards, but I am guessing the video card causes your choppyness.
How long ago did you buy it? Can you bring it back?

128mb Ram, and it was $85 american dollars. I bought the card early summer so I cant take it back. SiS chips seem kinda rare. Not many use them. I took the card cuz it was 128mb and cheap! But I guess the chip sucks.

Ya they talked about those cards in the new Maximum PC magazine. SIS is known for their nothbridge chips in mainboards. Their new cards are comparable to the Geforce4 MX series, but with programmable pixel and vertex shaders.

seemed to help a little bit but not a whole lot. I see a geforce 4 or radeon 9700 in my near future. Especially if rockstar release Vice City on the PC. Thanks guys.

As long as you buy a card that has either an ATI or Nvidia chipset you should be fine. I'd recommend the Gforce 4 strongly though, they work good with every game there is, and should last you quite a while.....
