Kingdom Hearts

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Got it today and played a little ... my first impression? It's a cute little game, but the theme seems to be more Square than Disney - questions that needed to be answered through self discovery.

The overall feel of the game is really weird - but except for the long ass intro, the game looks really fun to play. I only played for less than an hour, so still too early to tell. But it's actually pretty fun so far!

The characters in the game so far? Selphie, Wakka and Tidus, then Donald, Goofy, Minny and Daisy ... as I said, it's weird.... I like it

And the Grafics are solid

Posted by: AK47

Its got the worst commercial I've ever seen

Posted by: The_Turks(ff7)

never seen the commercial. What genre is it? What system is it on? I have heard Sephiroth, Cloud, and Tifa are in it too.

Posted by: Canis Lupus

It's basically an adventure RPG on PS2 ... the whole intro lets you choose which specialization you want to go into (warrior, mystic or guardian) ... you choose one as your main skill, and you give up one as a skill you can never learn ... the remaining one gets activated midway in the game, probably.

I bought the BradyGuide for it and after scanning the pages, I found a considerable amount of cameos, more on the Disney side of course but still a lot from the Square side.

The characters you get to control through the game are: Sora (main character), Donald, Goofy, Tarzan, Peter Pan, Aladdin, Ariel, Jack Skellington, and Beast. Cameos include Sephiroth, Yuffie, Aerith, Cloud, and Squall (altho he's named Leon in the game). And of course I already mentioned Selphie, Wakka and Tidus ...

The Disney cameos are probably double that number... anyway, I'll be playing it at length tonight to see if it stays interesting

Posted by: The_Turks(ff7)

whos Wakka? is that from ff10?

Posted by: Canis Lupus

tidus and wakka are both from FF10

Posted by: AK47

OMG!! You bought a guide!! Why even bother playing a game if you bought a book that tells you all the secrets and shit!!!

OMG!

Posted by: Canis Lupus

Yeah, why bother buying a guide when I can rent a gameshark2, a code breaker, or surf to gamefaqs?

Why bother playing at all! Why don't I just watch a season 4 of Star Trek TNG!

Why even post something about it at the console forum for that matter!

p.s. would a good alibi include "coz it had a lotta good pictures"?

Posted by: Null Actor

I almost wish I'd bought the guide. I've had to consult gamefaqs a few times now to figure out what the **** to do cause the game is designed so bad.

Thats a damn good question. Why ARE you playing games when you have the dvds.

TNG > everything else in life

So, what do you think of the game, Nova?

Posted by: Null Actor

It's okay. Square's games are going downhill in the gameplay department though. The story and presentation are top notch, exactly what I've come to expect from square, but the gameplay is mediocre at best. The interface and camera are horrible, and some of the level design is downright bad. Nothing worse than having to wander around an area aimlessly for a half hour, exploring everwhere to trigger cutscenes that advance the story for no particular reason.

No, if square keeps on messing up the gameplay of their games, I'll soon be buying no more square games, regardless of how good the story and presentation is.

Posted by: Ghetto Blasta

Wait, so the only playable characters in the game are Disney characters? That's a bit disappointing. I was hoping you could battle Cloud agains Micky or the Witch from beaty and the Beast.

Nontheless, being able to use Jack Skellington makes the game worth it all by itself!

Posted by: Canis Lupus

If I'm not mistaken, your teammates are Disney characters, aand the Square characters are some the "bosses" you fight in the game (along with the notorious Disney villains like Ursula, Jafar and Oogie Boogie Man, among others)

Posted by: The_Turks(ff7)

actually square bit it about when they got off the 32-bit snes. apart from tactics and maybe 7 all its new games are not that great. At least thats what i think.

Posted by: Canis Lupus

*shrug* ... I've enjoyed playing FF8 and FF9, and FF10 draws me in... I'm not so anal about gameplay ... I just play to have fun ... if story or presentation allows me to have fun, then the game has done its job for me.

Square still produces great games in my book ... unlike most companies who crank out first-person shooters and mmorpgs with the same theme and the same basic gameplay every single time, with just better graphics, better guns or better vehicles...

Of course, it once again boils down to the adage "what's good for you is not good for me" and vice versa ...

Posted by: Null Actor

I'm not particularly picky about gameplay in tried and true games, but when the gameplay becomes frustrating and annoying, I find it hard to appreciate even the absolute best story.

Posted by: The_Turks(ff7)

well i always liked the old school stuff better im not saying FF8 & 9 sucked its just they could have been better. I dont have an opinion for FF10 cuz i havent played it yet. I dont have a ps2 and dont really plan on buying one anytime soon. For me FF1 was like the best game, but for some reason most people dont like it... prolly cuz they played the newer ones first then played it.

That commercial was one the weirdest commericals I ever seen. That song made me look at the commercial and then the commercial didn't make the game look like a videogame, but like a movie. Weird.

Posted by: AltronHGX

I liked the song. Its called Simple and Clean and I have it on MP3 ^_^; V

Right now I'm kicking butt ! I have the uhh .. 4th keyblade upgrade and I'm battling evil squids in Atlantica(Ariel has uber fighting skills).

I'm thoroughly enjoying this game.

One point of advice though: If you play the game immediately set the camera to "Manual" instead of "Auto". Makes jumping puzzles tons easier.

I liked it too!

Posted by: Canis Lupus

This game is actually amusing me greatly ... I started the game again from scratch and now I just set foot in Wonderland ...

I'm intent on levelling up every chance I get... I finished Traverse Town at level 16, if that tells you something

Posted by: -EG-raynor

can i get that MP3
Winmx suckx for me, and i dont use kazaa

Posted by: AltronHGX

PM member Storm Shot for where to get the MP3. He showed me a website to download it from and I lost it ..

Hehe, I have the last level (I think) of Kingdom Hearts available to me. I'm trying to find out how to friggin use the Yellow and White Trinity marks now .... Its pissing me off.. But I'll figure it out. I can proudly say I've played the game thus far with no help doing any of the puzzles or fights.

Update: W00t I found the yellow trinity thing...... Still no sign of the white one. Whats sucks though is I think I ruined the game by missing out on getting some Dalmations at a part of the game where the area disappears after completing the mission.

I'm gonna try to beat the Hercules Cup in Time Attack mode (beat all 9 seeds under 3 minutes or you lose). Then I'm gonna go for the last(?) level.

Update: I beat Hercules in the 3 minute thing. Now I'm gonna beat on Cloud and gain a few levels since this level has 9 friggin difficulty stars on it. I'm level 48 right now.

Is anyone here still playing this?? This thread died waaaaay too fast.

I mean, this game has utterly consumed my life.

In barely under a week I managed to get everyone to level 100, max out my munny at $99,999, land all of the Trinity marks, rescue all the lost Dalmations, collect all of the [Elemental] Arts from the White Mushrooms, Get everyone's Ultimate weapons, get the maximum spells for everyone, 0wnz0rize everyone in the Coliseum matches in every play mode, and synthesize every item on the list.

Now I beat the game for good an hour ago and I liked what Square and Disney did with the "The End" screen. It had the box cover art on one half of the screen while the other half was black and said "The End" on the bottom with a music box version of the title theme playing (and square went out of their way to lock the game in that screen just like the other FFs).

This left me feeling a nice feeling of accomplishment... and at the same time is was kinda.............

Anyway..

It was weird as hell watching the credits role by and NOT being presented with the recurring Final Fantasy staff role.

May be some spoilers below ... highlight to read...

I'm gonna try to not spoil it too much but for the most part the ending left a lot of things un-concluded.

Also it felt exactly like FFX.

I let the game get to me by letting myself get too attached to the characters. Now I feel pretty empty inside because the game is finished and the story is over..

But then again I could always play it again on Expert mode...

That's coz you have no life

I could only play 1-2 hours a day every weekday, and it's not even everyday...

Posted by: AltronHGX

The game is short and levelling is not hard especially with the decisions I picked at the beginning..

Posted by: Daniel

I first learnt of this game yesterday when looking on the Square site for some info on FF10 (which i'm currently playing, and love to bits).

all I can say is that the Final Fantasy Universe and Disney are SO FOOKING DIFFRENT that I can't tell how this idea even came up in the first place.

Although it does intrest me in how they would pull of something like this, so as my first chance i'll be trying to get a copy (does anyone know who will be publishing it in the UK???)

(PC. why is Squall called Leon in this????)

His full name is Squall Leonheart ... He probably wanted to be called Leon to match Laguna loire, his father's name

Posted by: AltronHGX

If you read Squall's profile in the game it says his full name and it says why he calls himself Leon.

Posted by: uh...ok

UTADA HIKARU PWNS JOO!

The Japanese version of the song, "Hikari," is way better IMHO.

-uh...ok

Posted by: AltronHGX

10-4, buddy.

This might sound a little contredictory but I like the sound of the english singing better. But I hate the lyrics. But I don't have to listen to the bad lyrics in the japanese version so its kind of got me split on which version I like better!!

omgs so furstrstateding

Posted by: uh...ok

Hehe. I like "Hikari" better simply coz that was the one I heard first... that's also probably why you prefer the music to Simple and Clean.

If you notice though, the two versions have slightly different music. Simple and Clean is actually a mix of two songs... well not exactly. It's 95% part of "Hikari" and there's this one section of the refrain that actually comes from another recent Hikaru song called "Uso Mitanai I Love You". If you wanna know why I'm talking about, go get it.

OMG ... anyone fight Sephiroth in the Platinum Cup at Expert mode? ****, this guy's a frickin nightmare ... can't even get close to him to attack... Any tips? Sora's at Level 92 in my game...

Posted by: AltronHGX

I beat him at level 78 on Expert.

Here's what you do.

Make sure Sora has "MP Rage" equipped 2x.

Use "Keyblade Strike" like a mother****er until his HP starts moving. And if he says "Decend, Heartless Angel!" either get up to him FAST and smack him out of this attack (one hit brings your hp to 1 and MP to 0.

You *could* use an elixer. But if you have 85+ hp, a fair amount of defense, and MP Rage 2x on, then High potions should suffice.

Unfortunately you don't get anything from him.

(Except 18k exp which is an instant level all the way into level 100.

And where does he say "Sin Harvest"?

Only things I recall him sayings are "hya!" "wah!" "Dodge this!" "Come to me." "I am the chosen one!" "I will lead you to the promised land." "Decend, Heartless Angel." (Whatever he says before he does his combo. I forget.), and "This can't be happening!" (when he's defeated).

Tell me how this works. It takes a good 5 minutes or so but its easy once you get the hang of it.

One way I get around the "Heartless Angel" attack is to get AWAY from him and right before the orb thing explodes on you, use a Hi-Potion. Sora will toss it into the air, he'll say"BORGWAAAH!!!", get 1hp, then the Hi-Potion will restore it. You should be fine after this because Sephiroth will immediately strike you and give you 2MP back^.^

EDIT: I forgot to add.. When he gets halfway past "Yellow" health he'll go into "super-ultra-berserk-hyper ass-kicking-limit-break-mode"

And he'll perform a gratuitously long Super Nova summoning animation .. as for the spell itself its not that strong

Just stay in "glide" mode until the meteor shower stops.

Then for the rest of the battle after his Super Nova he'll have a purple glow to him and will attack twice as fast. As long as you hit him constantly with Keyblade Strike and ummm Sonic something (The ability you get when you defeat Cloud the first time) you ought to be fine..

Tell how it goes pzelzplezpl~ ^.^; V

Posted by: Canis Lupus

He says Sin Harvest when he casts that spell that reduces you to 1 HP

Anyway, I'll try to kill him now... what I was doing was just gliding over to him and then slashing as I go down, then execute ars arcanum as he casts that pillar of fire ... when he starts saying "sin harvest", I go to my Item menu and pre-use an Elixir (I got tons, and I need it to replenish the MP I use for Sonic, Strike Raid and Arcanum) ... after the sin harvest resolves, I gulp an elixir quick, then rinse and repeat ...

It's when he's at green HP bar that he always manages to kill me ... oh well, more practice ... hopefully I can kill him tonight and finish this game...

Posted by: AltronHGX

I thought that's what you were going to say!

Dude, listen closely to the game. He says "Heartless Angel" but before that I'm certain he says "descend".

!!

and Ars Arcanum is almost useless against him. Especially because after you hit him a good 4-5 times in a row he explodes into black feathers, reappears and hits you.

You should never have problems with Mana unless you have 2x MP Rage equipped. You're level 92 so you should have two of those omfg.

If you're still having trouble, I'd say hot-key Curaga to the X button.

If you're tight with MP then do what I do: Chase him around and whack him on foot. (ALWAYS jump at him after you get close (Disregard previous statement. I just realized that doesn't work. (Don't you love nested parentheses?))).

Strike is probably the most useful attack Sora has in the game.

Here's a trick I learned for getting around his combo. Use the Sonic attack. You're invincible through the whole thing. And if you can drag it out long enough you can get a good 10+ seconds of being invulnerable.

"Its not the size of the HP that matters.. Its the motion of the strike-hit ocean."

Posted by: Canis Lupus

Actually if you use Arcanum right before he casts that pillar of fire, you won't take any damage from the fire

And no, the "descend heartless" you hear is "sin harvest" ... where did he ever say "angel"? lol

Anyway, back to my game...

Posted by: AltronHGX

wtf? I'll play it again in a few days when I get back home...

/me logs off for the night.

Posted by: Canis Lupus

Well, I finally beat him last night ... took a shitload of gliding and arcanum to do it ... strike raid was useful in stopping sin harvest, but the reload on that thing is so damn slow .... used up 4 elixirs in the process but well worth it

Oh, I love the rendition of One-Winged Angel in that whole fight ... still the best music in the whole game, even tho it was from FF7

Posted by: AltronHGX

Agreed. Unfortunately its not in the OST

Posted by: Nfested

There is nothing wrong with FF7 music

Posted by: AltronHGX

I just beat Sephiroth again and I'm positive he's saying "Descend Heartless Angel". You have to listen closely for the "Angel" part.

We need to get a sound byte and a poll up here somewhere.

If only I had the hardware...

Posted by: Canis Lupus

It's Sin Harvest ... you want proof? Check the PlayOnline forums, lol ...

Posted by: MeTaLGeAr_X

The fight with Sephiroth in that game was the coolest fight ever in the history of games even if i die a million times it's still cool to get your ass kicked by that badass.

Posted by: The_Turks(ff7)

Even if it is "Sin Harvest", it would make more sense as "Descend Heartless Angel" because Sephiroth is an angel in FF7 and he seemed pretty heartless too...

Posted by: Canis Lupus

Yeah, but there's a difference between "what it sounds like" and "what it really is", hehe

And if it was "Descend Heartless Angel" it wouldn't make sense given the nature of the magic attack...

Posted by: 'DragonMaster

GameF.A.Q.'s... Oh yeah. That's a great site.

Posted by: The_Turks(ff7)

Well i dont have the game and never seen gameplay of it so i dunno what im talking about...

Posted by: seperoth

i just beat it right now very well done and good game
i hope the sequel be as good

whoever beat the game tell me what u thought

Posted by: Canis Lupus

Merged the topics ... check the first page

Posted by: AltronHGX

Spoiler

Highlight, like, duh
Sora should have leaped that shit.

Screw Donald, Goofy, Pluto, and Mickey!

Posted by: bLaCkOuT

Finally got around to completing it last night ... been sitting at the end for about 3/4 weeks now. That last fight is truly worthy of a FF game - flashy, yet strategical (If you haven't leveled way up).

So do you think they left the end open for a KH2?

Posted by: Bobaroo

Damn I haven't played KH in about 3 weeks. Time to start playing again.

Posted by: seperoth

very open for a second watch the movie after credits
