Help with mobo/cpu/powersupply

Hello,
I have an ASUS K7M motherboard, an AMD Athlon K7 750 cpu, 192MB PC133 ram, a WD 7200rpm UDMA 100 40GB HD, 24x Leoptics CD rom, 1.44MB Floppy drive, Geforce2 MX400, USRobotics 56k modem, Hercules MuseXL sound card, all on a 250Watt power supply.
Problem: When i turn the computer on, i hear the harddrive start to boot, the light on the cd rom turns on, and so does the one on the floppy drive, but nothing shows up on the monitor. So, i figure its the power supply, so i unplug everything, except the video card. Try booting a couple times, still no go. I reconnect the HD, floppy, and CD, but no other cards, and try booting a couple times, 2 times i got a screen that showed the video card bios flash, on the first of those 2 boots, i got the blue HP screen.
Im checking other places to look for info, i got the motherboard off ebay, so i figure it could be a bad board, but i looked at reviews, and it seems it takes a 300W power supply to power even a 550K7 processor. Im not quite sure what to do now, any help would be GREATLY appreciated, and ive only got a couple days to either decide to keep or try and get my money back for the motherboard... plz help!!! thanks!!
Jeremy

check the specs on the mobo, it will say what power supply is required. if you are under that, youll have to replace one or the other.

it says minimum power supply 200W, recommended at least 250Watt, but it will take a minimum processor of like 500mhz K7, and i got a 750, so i figure power intake is a little different

Has the video card worked in the past? If not, can you test another?

Ahh, yes, the video card worked in my P2 450, and i tried using a Voodoo3 2000 PCI card in the 750 too... but i had less luck with that than the GeForce2

Do you hear the startup post beep? If so, it "may" be a power problem. Also, other things to check for, make sure, absolutely sure all your cards connections are tight and inserted properly. If you can, try getting a different power supply. I ran my XP 1700+ off of a 250w for almost a week and I had no problem.
I'll think of more things later, Then I will post back if I think of anything else. But make sure all the cards are in nice and tight.

No, no startup beep. I'm not sure if I had the speaker plugged in, or if since it's an HP board. But I dont think it even booted that far. Not sure though
I had a similar problem on a Compaq installing my voodoo3 2000. The screen would stay black when i started up, not sure how i fixed it, but i did.
Just wondering, but did the power supply die from the XP 1700+?

Nope, the powersupply was just temporary, out of an OLD ATX system, and it worked fine. I was looking into buying a new 420w but ended up getting a 350w switching PSU. But, try taking a ton of stuff out, except for the necessities. Keep the CPU, RAM, Video, HDD. And see if she boots up right then, if so, you have a power drain somewhere. It may be time to upgrade the power supply.

Oh, and if you can, try grabbing a bigger PSU out of another system, if possible. See if that puppy gets her up and running, that will be the sure end of the problem if it does. heh

Nope, doesn't boot up right then. But, sometimes when I press the power switch to turn on, it will turn on for a sec, then turn off.

Hmm... I think it's the mobo.
I would think 250 Watts would be sufficient for that system, you don't really have any power demanding parts, besides the AMD CPU.

Well, I did get it to boot once to the HP screen, but thats only how far it made it.. and I read a review on it at http://www.arstechnica.com/reviews/...sk7m/k7m-1.html where they use an AMD 550, with smaller HD, a 16MB nvidia card. By reading that it makes me think that it is just my power supply.. lol, im just really hoping its not the power supply, im lookin to get another power supply really soon to test it out

I assume that they AGP slot had the power plugged into it, my old athlon 750 ran on a 250 watt psu fine. I only went to a 300w one because I vaporised the fuse in the 250W by running too many drives in it (7 )

i had similar probvlems with my abit motherboard, and it ended up ebing the capacitors were friend if not i know the amd processors on that board have a poroble with their seats so try disconnecting ram and cpu and then hooking them back up and see the results...

okay, now i got it to boot to the blue HP screen, but I cant seem to get it to boot past that, even with an ME boot disk and cd in the computer it wont go past the HP blue screen, and im not sure how to get into the bios on an HP board either... can u guys help me out on how to get it to boot past blue screen(i dont have the original system restore disk either)
