testing NW connection

I'm confused! How can you check if a wall connection is live if 1. You don't have a line tester, 2. the PC is not configured for the network yet and 3. the ports at the punch down panel are not marked?

I am in trouble for not checking to see if the wall connections were live and I don't know how to do it.

sounds like you just need to configure the computers for your network and see if they talk. without a line tester, that's really all i can think of to do.

I can't take the time to do as you suggest. This is a lab of 30 PCs and it would take too long to do that. I need something that is quick. Although you did give me an idea. I could carry a laptop that is configured for the NW, around the lab and test all the ports!

Thanks
