My problem all started out when I tried to install the latest version of my video card. Which was unsuccessful by the way, giving me the error message[ SUReg Createkey failed.] What does that mean anyway? In that process of trying to install the updated driver my display went from gray to nothing,so I uninstalled the driver, but my problem now is, that when I try to reinstall the driver my computer does not seem to recognize the installation cd in my cd-rom. It gives me the error [The file alfaraxx.hlx was not found.]My cd-rom works fine finding any other cd I install. Thanks for any help. P.S . I have had to reinstall my video driver before and there was no problem . It is only after the attempt to install the update the problem began.I even went as far as reinstalling my orignal video card that came with the computer and it works.

Try downloading the drivers directly from ATI, rather than off the CD:

Does the Radeon show any video at all? If you install it of course...

Make sure that before you install your video card that your system can handle it. If your motherboard can't support the requirements, you may need to get a different motherboard. But let's not get to that extreme yet.

Explain everything you did, and what happened.

First I went to add/remove programs and removed the driver. I also went to my explore tree and deleted everything associated with the ati including something called [gart] which by not even knowing what that is maybe I shouldn't have deleted it! Since then I have read something about gart and doesn't it have something to do with motherboard and chipsets? How significant is this ? My orignal card works fine though. It seems that this problem of not recognizing the d:/ drive is related to pluging in the radeon card and then it is disabled. For me to exit out of the two windows , I have to get the end task window and then I'm left with a gray screen. Is there anything that I can do in the safe mode window that will help it recognize my cd-rom drive so I can install the driver, because it is recognizing the new hardware. Won't the setup cd have everything on it that I may have deleted in error?By the way I did try using system restore and went back 7 days or so and it didn't fix it . Some how I have screwup th setup of the card. I have had this card for over a year and it worked fine until I tried installing the update! Contacting ATi tech support as I'm sure you know is a waste of time . They give you links to go to and figure it out yourself and my limited knowledge of computers doesn,t make this a very good option. Thanks for your help.

What kind of processor are you using?

Intel or AMD?

If i'm not mistaken, the GART file has to do with VIA's AGP drivers. Try downloading the latest 4-in-1 drivers from VIA here.

The drivers available on the web from ATI would most likely be a better solution, also. Use the link Shalome provided and select your operating system and Radeon VE.
