Multiplayer problems, please advise:

Here's the thing. I installed the game on two computers with the same configuration, and both computers are connected via Windows XP home network.
I'm starting a local multiplayer game in one of the computers, but the other one can't see the game in the local game join list. What could I be doing wrong?
Please help.

This might be a bug in the game. I've noticed that if you make a game open to the internet, it won't show up in the local list. I'd suggest using a proper name for the game, then just searching through the internet game browser for it.

I'm not that lucky. I opened it as local and it still don't show. Also, I tried going into one of the internet servers, and I always get a "Disconnected from server" message right after it starts connecting. I update to the latest patch and all, so what could I be doing wrong?
