Restarting Problems!

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I also have a restart problem, I have an MSI KT3 Ultra2 Motherboard with 512mb of Samsung RAM. It starts up and shutsdown fine, but when I do a restart (or use the case reset switch), in Win98SE the HD, and floppy lights stay lite for a few seconds and the monitor is black. My CPU is an AMD XP 2000+. I've upgraded my 250watt power supply to a 420watt. I've tried removing my MIS G4 Ti 4200 64mb video card and putting in my old video card (3DFX VooDoo3 3000). I've even used another Hard Drive with a clean install of Win98SE. Nothing is fixing this problem! I'm wondering if there isn't something going on with the KT3 Ultra cards?

Someone Please help!

My NIC is a LinkSys and I've tried disabling it in Device Manager, the problem was still there.

I could sure use some help on this matter.

Disabling it is not the same as removing it.

The process Aries used to isolate the problem is the method I would recommend you use.

"Your problem is more likely caused by your anti-virus software not working well with ACPI.

Turn off your anti-virus software and then turn off ACPI support in your BIOS and see if the problem goes away.

If that works, then replace your anti-virus software with one that works - or - live with the problem."

It's not my Norton AntiVirus program. I've tried disabling it, along with ACPI. The problem is still there.

What is your CD writer software. I have an older version of Adaptec and it causes my computer not to shut down or restart correctly. How do I know this? When ever I rebuild my computer, I dont install the cd software until I need it. When I do need it and reinstall it, then I get the restarting/shut down problems. Same scenario you describe.

I dont let it bother me though, I just hold the power button down to shut it off, or I push the reset button when It gets to the point you described.

could it be that the reset switch's wires are not correctly attached to the motherboard?
