I friend of mine is getting the following PC parts:

soyo kt333 dragon platinum, with AMD Athlon xp 2200+, 512 ddr ram, GF 4 4600
2 HD 1 dvd 1 cd burner and floppy of course.

Would a 400watt PS be ok, or should he go for more?

400W should be fine

That should be a sweet little system when its togther

Which O/S is he gonna use?

Posted by: SKYHN

400 should be good, what brands is he looking at? If the difference in price between a 400 and 450 is small, I would go with the 450.

heh, if he get's a nice little 550w one, he won't have to worry when he want's to upgrade in 2010

By the time 2010 comes around he will have upgraded at least twcie and be about ready to upgrade for the next upgrade.

I predict that in 2010 processor speeds would be about 200Ghz

Ram would be running at about 100Ghz the Bus speed would be about 50Ghz

Computers are generally obsolete in about 2 to 3 years, unless all you using them for is Word Processing, internet Email, and maybe some light Internet browsing.

hmmm I wonder if it would be at 200Ghz I dont think the same routine will stay for another 8 to 9 yrs

someones gonna make some sort of dual socket or diffrent brands will come mobos ell be completely diffrent
but still we gotta think back look at all those 286s they were about 1983-85 so I think that with a 10Mhz cpu up to a 200Ghz will make this 286 even slower though...

I think it would still be enough for DOS

Yeah, something between now and then will totally change CPU's, like Cell Computing. Maybe end up with Terahertz by 2010 with cell computing.

Well 400w is more than enough to power that system. You could probably make it with a 300w.. but that'd be cutting it close.. hehe

So your answer is, yes, it will run with a 400w, but bigger is better to all people.
