I went through my Hardware and software last week and made a little machine 96Mb of RAM (EDO , FP)
I got a 90Mhz in there and to hds one 850Megs and the other 80MBS
I fell upon a K5 266 and a Cyrix PR 120
The thing is my K5 I sold it for a better HD (6 Gegs)
And I wanna know if Im better off with a cyrix Pr120 or for 90Mhz
Im basically running win95B enhanced and word processing , playing starcraft and diablo 1
so what will be the best for what I do my 90 seems to be great for all I do I eve ngot a SMC 1208T and Im hooked to Cable 512Kbps.
hmm CYRIX or INTEL? or should I get another K5 which I can buy at a local store
THX

Intel.

Well..
The Cyrix PR 120 is 30% faster than the 90 Mhz CPU you got.
The K5 266 is almost 300% faster.

Correction Kane, to be truthful, the speed difference is by clock speed, the Cyrix won't perform as well as the intel in the gaming department, but you wouldn't see much of a difference at all with the cyrix in other things, such as word processing, ect... Like I said in your previous post, see if your mobo will hold the K6's, if it will, grab up a K6-2 or a K6-3. That would be the biggest amount in speed you could nab, other than that, if it holds a 233mmx Intel or a 266 K5, I'd go with the 233MMX intel.
As for keeping the chips you have, I'd go with the intel. And Cyrix rocked with boards that had onboard L2 at 256k or higher.
I'll say this tho.. An AMD K5 at 150mhz really sucked on Starcraft games that lasted more than 10 minutes. Once it started loading up on the units, it really starts to lag, even on a lan. So, I think you'd be best off with a higher clocked processor, such as a 200+Mhz cpu.

thx Im on my 90 right now b4 I posted with my 1.8 but I got it hooked to lan though I lose bandwitdth with the length of the wire from my cable modem to my room....
Thx, I<ll try to get a 233 or 266 on Ebay cuz I phoned my store and he aint got anymore god damnit

I'd take the 233mmx intel over a K5 anyday. The intel processors just blew away the AMD's.

ok... Thx for wantin to keep up with me I love ppl like that..
I am planning on purchasing on ebay though I will take the basic precautions asking for advice and how I should preform on doing so...
So should I stay tuned to my seller or is it fine ..
And whats this bid thing why cant we just select the item take the price its at and buy! The prices are good enough! THX ALL!

Well ebay can be a pretty good place to buy, but you always get those dishonest people. I'd say use a check or some form of physical evidence that you paid it.
Anyways... I wouldn't use ebay unless it was really important heh.
You have to make the decision where you plan to buy your stuff from, I think a 2-bit old hardware store would be better, but that's my opinion. I always love the security of a reciept.

heh of course man I am 14Yrs old so I don't plan on using credit card and ya I have a local hardware store and he says that he has no more hds higher than 500MBs so I don't want em. He also said he sold all his MMX processers and the ones he has left are 133s and 166s non-mmx.. On ebay I aint sure about buying my dad would take care of the cheque id pay em back but the prob is I found some pretty nice deals there : sokcet 7 board 64MB SDRAM with it 233Mmx
plus it has 4 simms open so I can sue my 128 of Dram.
all that for 15$
THen another good one two nice maxtors 3.5 GBS each so I would use em both lol! for 20$
thats like 35 bucks for an awesome comp I already have my 4mb cirrus logic that I bought not long ago all that on a win 98 se would run fine
but as you said and as my dad sees it I think that Internet buying and selling isnt the best place...
Thx
