If you have two phone lines in your home and want to use them both to dial out,
you can use MultiLink, which will effectively double your connection speed.
-Create a dial-up connection like your normally would.
-Right click on the icon and select Properties
-Click on the Multilink tab
-Click on Use additional devices
-Click on the Add
-Click on the other modem you would like to use
-If your ISP allows, you can use the same phone number, otherwise enter an additional phone number to dial.
-You should now connect with both modems.
-You can confirm this by opening up your dial up connection in the System Tray after you connect.

If you modem goes offline frequently, it may be due to a temporary lost carrier. To lengthen the time the modem will go offline after the carrier is lost, change the modem properties.
-Open up the Control Panel
-Double click on the Modem icon
-Click on Properties / Connection / Advanced
-In the Extra Settings, enter S10=10
-This will enable the modem to stay connected without a carrier for up to 10 seconds.

Get the most performance from your modem.
-Disable compression on your modem
-In SYSTEM.INI under 386enh section put in:
-COMxBUFFER=1024 (x is your modem port number )
-Add AT%C0 (that's a zero),to the extra settings line of your modem's properties.
-Switch errror correction off

No, actually I have I cable modem.

Well, I think the ISP has to set up multi-link on their end for it to work. I've never heard of one that did. Multi-link is a Microsoft idea.
Some ISPs were using Diamond's dual modem setup. I'm not sure if any of them still do.

Back in the day (96-97) I had 2 Diamond Shotgun modem setup. I had an ISP that supported it. It worked good, and did have a faster connection.
I don't think too many ISPs support dual modem setups anymore.

i thought he was referring to dial-up and ifso you can use you isp account on more then one computer at the same time...

No, Theemon.
I don't believe so.

what that you cant use the same isp? or noto dial-up?
Posted by: Kdr Kane
You cannot dial-up to your ISP with more than one modem unless your ISP supports it. If they do, they charge you more.
Most ISP's specifically check to see if your user account is being used for more than one connection. If so, they terminate your service.

Replying to the conversation on using 2 different PC's to connect to the same ISP account,,Never in my neck of the woods..Believe me I tried. One PC connects great, when I attempt to connect with the other using the same account,,Boot city..So,now I have 2 Isp accounts,2 seperate lines.I hate it,So I'm really interested in trying to run two modems at once,I love to experiment with these PC's,,I want to network the 2 together,,Somewhere I read this can be done using the modems! I'm willing to try most anything as long as it doesn't fry my chips, lol. Happy PC'ing..

Yes,I totally agree..This however was my husbands solution, mine is to close out the dial up ISP's,hook up DSL then network these two together.I want to be able to use 1 connection,I want to be able to share files and the 1 printer between the 2 PC's..So many times I've needed a certain download/file for something while on the other comp. and realized it was on the other comp, lol!! I've got so many disk and floppies which I've used to transfer files and such,it's pitiful! I was reading up on how to DCC these two, parallel port wise, which I think is better or USB? Any advice is greatly appreciated, and thanks for your reply

OK I'm glad to say this works for me I bought 2 identical motorola modems and tried it but, but one modem would work fine and the other wouldn't work I had a 56 k pctel modem that would only connect at 30 k (bad drivers) but when I put it in with one of the motorola modems I am now connecting at 81 k. Now I just got to take back the one motorola and exchange it for a different brand. And I asked my isp if I could connect 2 comps and they said yes but I had to give them the 2 phone numbers and there is no charge. Well thanks alot for the info maybe this will get me by until dsl or cable is avialable in my area.
