Running this on my laptop

IBM A20
550 celleron 256ram ati rage video..

problem is I can't adjust the resolution.. any idea's???

Laptops don't change resolution well.

However, in Linux, you can change the resolution with CTRL + or CTRL SHIFT +.

I'm not sure of the key combination.

its ctrl+alt and minus or plus key on the number pad (left side of kb).
if you dont get the resolution you want or want to set one as default edit your XF86Config file. Its in /etc/XF86Config or maybe /etc/X11R6/XF86Config depending on what version. look for the part that says
Modes "800x600" or whatever and delete and add modes as you like.

once you get the resolution fixed check out some of these THEMES for KDE. Enlightenment has some cool ones too like THIS or THIS one. You can switch between window managers easily.
