Once the two have collected a million discs, they say they'll drive them to AOL's headquarters in Virginia and dump them at the Internet giant's door.

It's a pretty good idea, and they say they're up to 70,000. I don't think I'd spend postage on it, though. I don't get the CDs in the mail anymore, anyway.

Good luck to them on hauling 2 million cds (and staying economical with it), and not being arrested after they do it.

I have a collection of my own, from 1.0 onwards. About 40 in all, just sitting in the 'misc pile of stuff' under the desk. although I have no intention of dumping on AOL's front door, no matter how much I want to.

That site is great! Heh... I think they need more pictures from people who gave AOL cds to their pets. Anyone around here have AOL cds, pets, and a digicam?

Every year at the philly fest me and a few people at our site erect a large PEACE symbol out of AOL CD's

They look hella cool so they are indeed useful for something

Beware the AOL cd. I got yet another in the mail once, threw it on the floor, and somehow managed to step on it 30 minutes later. I had a nice 1/2 inch of cd shard stuck in my foot. AOL is the Devil!

for an art project my junior year in high school i helped a senior make a full suit of armour of of aol cds. he used a mannequin and a torch to melt the cds into solid pieces. i just held the cds in place with tongs, asbestos gloves, or whetever we could snag from the shop that day. it came out great, but i think he was a little off on his measurements for the mannequin. it was supposed to fit him but ended up being a wee bit too small

Stupid Aol sent me those discs even when I had Aol.

AOL CD cases are great though. I always save those.

Along the same lines as this thread ..... are the endless letters you get for "credit card applications"!

About 2 years ago REVENGE made a suggestion, and I loved it! ........... and I do it!!!

When you receive those "prepaid" envelopes that come along with the "application" ...... just send it back "empty"! Do not put your return address or anything on it! .............. Someone pays for that postage, and guess who it is? It is the dang company, Capitol One, Chase Manhattan, etc. etc. etc. ......... that sent it out to you in the first place ........they PAY for the postage!!!!

So maybe in another 50 years, they will get tired of receiving all those empty envelopes back .......... and quit sending them!!!!

Have a nice day ........ Capitol One!!!

I don't think there would be any legal problems with dumping the cds at AOL's building. After all, one could easily argue that they are AOL's property to begin with, since they are sent out, unsolicited, to people.

Does anyone remember on Seinfeld when Kramer kept getting Pottery Barn catalogs on a daily bases? He saved them all up for a month, took them down to one of the stores and dumped them in the building. A short while after that I remember reading something about a guy who did that same thing. He received pottery barn often, and was sick of it. So he saved them up for 1 year, walked down to a pottery barn store and dumped them in it. They called the police but they couldn't do anything. He broke no laws. The police arrived and determined that he was not at fault because the catalogs were Pottery Barn's Property. He was just returning it to them

My Mom uses the free CD's as art projects. She paints the back side with scenes.. like for Xmas, Thanksgiving, Halloween, etc. drills a hole in the top, and hangs them around.... =)

When i go to Target i make all the attendants mad by taking all the "free" marked stuff including AOL cds, Auto mart True Realty...and so on...

Good idea I'll take some out with me and drop them in my clay launcher for some skeet action.

They make nice frisbees too. Throw them over your neighbor's fence. I wonder if my dog'll fetch them for me (hope not).
