(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I just bought WC3 and installed it. I clicked on play and got this message "Please make sure your Warcraft 3 disc is in your CD-ROM drive." It is in the drive. I have uninstalled, reinstalled, and downloaded a patch...Nothing I just want to play. Windows Me...750 MHZ AMD...192 RAM...NVIDIA Vanta LT 8 MB Please HELP !!!

Even if you get your drive to read the disk, you won't be able to play. You don't have enough RAM to play , and your video card can't possibly play the game well.
Blizzard's recommended minimum requirements:
600 MHz processor
256 MB of RAM
32 MB 3D video card
DirectX® 8.1 compatible sound card
Although you meet the bare minimum to run the game, I think you'll find the performance degredation on your system will prevent you from actually playing.
Blizzard's support site says you might want to try copying all the data from the CD directly to your hard drive (which, IMHO, is a stupid solution)
Blizzard's support site also says that if you can't get the game installed, you need to contact them -- your disk might be damaged.

So if I go to a 256 RAM and get a 64 MB video card will it play then.

Well, the "disk not found" error is a bit different than the system requirements.. Lack of RAM and an old video card shouldn't affect your drive's ability to read the CD. See the other suggestions in my first post.

I just encountered this problem as well and am looking for the solution. I've had the game installed for several months now and have never had a problem with it (although I''m even just under the recommended requirements with a 600 MHz and 128 MB RAM). My computer was able to play the game without any problems until today. I've checked other games and they work fine, so it is only WC3 which has the problem. Any thoughts?

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling? If it worked before and you have trouble now, some file may have gotten corrupted. Uninstalling and reinstalling will be the best place to start for troubleshooting.

Thanks for the tip. I tried uninstalling/reinstalling 3 times and I still encounter the same exact message. It's quite frustrating. What's really wierd is that when I insert the CD the computer recognizes it is the WC3 cd and begins to launch the game, but then the error message appears after a second or so. Any additional ideas? I'm quite certain that the cd isn't damaged in any way. Thanks again.

Well, you could try the tried-and-true:
1. Uninstall
2. Scandisk
3. Defrag
4. Reinstall
Just something to think about -- did you install anything new shortly before the game stopped working?

Thanks tkron! The patch (1.04b) did the trick and my computer now recognizes the cd again. Thanks again for the link. You rock.

OK, 1 more problem. The patch did work and I was able to play the game, but when I turned my computer on today it was back to the same old problem. I had to completely uninstall the game again, then rerun the patch to get it to work. But as soon as I turned my computer off it again reverted back to the same error [Please make sure yourWarcraft 3 disk is in your CD-ROM]. I really don't want to have to uninstall/reinstall the game every time I turn my computer off. Any ideas?

Phule if you can call tech support at blizzard as soon as you get through they usually can narrow down the problem right away and give you a definate answer, if you cant call them then i dont really know what to say, Are you SURE that your disc is not damaged? if not i bet you have done some major hardware/ software changes lately because that kind of problem doesnt just SHOW UP... and if you try uninstalling and reinstalling again manually go in after the uninstall and delete any folders that may be left behind it is possibly you have a corrupt file that just sits in there and you arnt paying attention to it...

What about that thing where you mark around the edge of the cd with a marker? It could be a copy protection fault. Those faults bug me at times even on the original game discs. Also, make sure the cd is sqeaky clean (I know that's elementary but I know that I forget that sometimes).

His last post was about a month ago, and he hasn't posted back. He's probably solved the problem himself or from someone else. For future reference, the time and date of posts are listed under the poster's profile area.
