A little concern o' mine

Ok heres my setup:

ATHLON XP 1900+
256MB DDR PC2700
ASUS K7V333
SB LIVE 5.1
D-Link something-something
DVD ROM from sony
LG burner brand new 32/10/40
OS WIN98SE fancied with a few updates..

Office 2000 pro...

and a few games

HD 40GB MAXTOR SOMETHING SOMETHING

On its total capacity of usage I only filled 1.963Gbs

So it shouldnt be the problem cause I have all the files , software and games I need to entertain myself...

My problem :

I always defrag atleast about 3 or 4 times a month even more sometimes ... Cuz I often uninstal and installl files cuz i am fussy about HDD space since I was used to a Pentium 100 with win95 and it was only a 1.23 gig

So I find that since a while drag takes longer to open and defrag....

It freezes more often it has some sound stutter and I find that win98se on a 1600 is lite so ti should start really faster than its been starting lately....

Thx any hints on what could Start or could be getting/already be/been wrong.

Defragging more then once every few month is completely unnecessary, and only puts unneeded stress on the drive, which in turn shortens the drives life.

98SE takes a while to boot. If you want a fast booting OS, try XP. Its not as hellish as most people think.

I had a problem once as well, where my video drivers made my system take upwards of 10 minutes to boot, because they weren't installed properly. So any drivers you've recently updated could be the problem.

i sent my ceomp in for guarantee claiming taht there was 99% chance of several hardware failures

While chagning the hardware they put in the nvidia drivers I guess those may be the thing were looken 4 thxc but I aint planning on changing em and I dont know that you mean byh HDs life but I have a 9 year old seagate at 850Mb and it ran 4years on 3.11 got formatted and reinstaled win95 on it I ran defrags on it for about 5 years now I made myself a llittle 200 and i still defrag after a lot of installations and the drive is perfectly in shape its quiet and its fast at file acess

Thx
