I wondered how long it would take before people started being stupid over Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. Well, the answer is apparently two days.
http://abcnews.go.com/sections/GMA/...theft_auto.html
Here are some absolutely *choice* picks from that article:
We start with this:
Quote:
|
This Miami Vice-ish video game is the newest and perhaps most realistic first-person, shoot 'em up video game ever made.
|
Well, the game isn't first person. Nor is it very realistic, the characters look significantly worse than most games out today. Oh, and the game is nothing like Miami Vice, unless you count the fact that it takes place in Miami.
I *love* this quote, can anyone spot the hypocrisy?
Quote:
|
"I'm for freedom of speech but … Grand Theft Auto is heinous," Washington Post columnist Mike Wilbon said on ESPN's live commentary show, Pardon The Interruption. "The people who put it together should be stoned in the street."
|
This one is also pretty fun:
Quote:
|
"It's full of wonderful graphics and wonderful technology but there isn't enough attention being paid to the content," Walsh said on ABCNEWS' Good Morning America. "There is killing and prostitution," he said.
|
OMG! TV-class content in a game!
Quote:
|
Walsh said he is concerned about how the game will affect kids' perception of what's normal in real life.
|
Yes, I'm sure everyone who plays the game will walk away thinking they can speed a motorbike in to a truck, head-on, fly off, scrape on the pavement, then get up and run off to do it again.
And they end on this note:
Quote:
|
"It's not so much the copy cat factor … but kids and teens are in the process of shaping their norms," Walsh said. "When you kill a prostitute after having sex with her — that's not something we want boys doing," he said.
|
I wonder which he's talking about...

Oh my, this one is even better!

But while most video games put you in a fantastic setting — say, a blue maze full of dots — GTA3 is set in Liberty City, a metropolis as realistic and richly detailed as Dickens' London
|
I wouldn't call it realistic or detailed, not really. And come on... when was the last time a game had a maze full of dots? 20 years ago?
Quote:
|
Most video games give you a challenge, like eating all the dots while dodging hungry pastel-colored ghosts. In GTA3, your problems are real-world problems, like parallel parking.
|
Ahahahahahhahahahah!
Yes, all games have been like pac man until GTA3, which is the pinnacle of realism!
Jesus I wish these ****os would at least familiarize themselves with games before attempting to write about them.
Okay, now it's OBVIOUS this guy hasn't seen a videogame in 20 years...
Quote:
|
Measured by its body count, GTA3 is pretty tame — compared with, for example, Space Invaders
|
Oh, wait! They are getting closer to present, now they are only 15 years behind:
Quote:
|
"There has been a demographic shift in who's playing," Donovan argues. "You're telling a 25-year-old that he's supposed to play with a hedgehog?"

Awesome. My personal fave was...
--Washington Post columnist Mike Wilbon said on ESPN's live commentary show, Pardon The Interruption--
Hahahahaha!!!
They cant find intelligent people to complain about the game, so they turn to sports analysists.
Brilliance
--Edit--
HAHAHAHAHA!! your second post in this thread made me officially wet my shorts.
The whole pac man comparrison is too good.
Parallel parking! AHAHAHAHA!
*dies*

"There's a lot of stuff [in it] you don't want to see in real life," one 13-year-old said.
Apparently those who wrote the articles think you're not intelligent enough to know right from wrong and DO want to see it, maybe even act out the game in real life, little 13-year-old. So put down the pad and go read your dad's Playboys.

Perhaps maybe when news media does stories on Violence in video games now, they will stop using footage from The original Mortal Kombat and Doom.
News media = the suq

That article from your second post was good. I liked his sarcasm.

it will also force us to realize that video games aren't toys anymore; they're sophisticated, thought-provoking entertainment for grownups. At their best, they're art.
