Caught this bit on cnn.com, thought it was interesting:

eh, nothing really new there. if you only smoke the occasional joint, its not a big deal. its only daily users that need to be concerned.

Posted by: justinious

Anyone who smokes 3 joints a day won't care if thier lungs are going kaput.

I'd like to quote a famous Dennis Miller line. "It's ****ing smoke!" Of course it's bad for you!

Not to mention there's no filter on them.

The Conspiracy Theorist says:

THE STUDY WAS PROBABLY FUNDED BY THE TOBACCO INDUSTRY AND THE D.E.A!

Posted by: redwench

well, its a british study, so thats rather unlikely

Posted by: Null Actor

Yeah, when I read the headline my original thought was that it would probably some US Gov't scare tactic, but since it's a UK study...

Posted by: Erekose

so its a UK Gov't scare tactic?

Posted by: Sarc

Uh, I always thought it was grown, not made. ???

So, how much could of really changed?

Posted by: redwench

um, the same way that corn, wheat, rice, and tomatos have changed? and im not referring to gm.

You're wrong. . . .I'm quite concerned about news like this. However, given the fact that no one laces their pot with gunpowder or salt peter, I have a hard time buying this news. There are a truckload of nasties added to cigarettes to make people keep smoking them. I believe this is propaganda.

There is a reason you choke when inhaling smoke. I don't care what kind of smoke it is.

Ummm... Actually you'd be pretty surprised what people lace weed with. Like have you ever bought some then awhile later it aint as big as it used to be? I know of alot of people that sell drugs that put gasoline into it and it expands it and weights it down.

Posted by: Shalome

Dude, trust me, it's water, not gasoline. You couldn't smoke something that was soaked in gasoline -- if that was true, you'd hear all about pot smokers with their faces and hands burned off.

Plus it would taste like shit.

Posted by: Sarc

Gasoline!? Good Lord, that's sick.

i think yall should read this book...

okay, sounds good... so long as it is legalized for growth for its beneficial qualities and not for recreational use. i'm not against smoking marijuana (anymore than i am against tobacco) but if it is going to be legalized lets start with the important stuff first. in fact i'm sure there are plenty of types of hemp plants that contain little/no THC and still have all the beneficial qualities. we should all be given seeds to plant for ourselves as well as large farms established... if some of the non-essential parts should happen to catch fire in say, a pipe, well no harm no foul

Posted by: redwench

nothing wrong with recreational usage. but you have to realize, that anything you put inside your body can harm you. and the more you use, the more likely you will experience negative effects. lets face it, obtaining vegetation with pharmacological properties, drying it, setting it on fire, then concentrating the smoke and deliberately inhaling it is NOT going to be without some kind of health consequences. do the same with say, wood, and youll probably end up will similar pulmonary problems.

Posted by: Erekose

oh i do luv. im not saying it isnt harmful, never have.
