One of the stimuli behind the boom in internet cafes is the relative cheapness of surfing. It costs from as little as 30 US cents for 30 minutes.
Tanzania is also fortunate in that wireless technology, used by mobile phone companies, is also being used to provide internet access, a huge benefit in a country in which fixed line coverage is patchy.
"The situation with wireless broadband in Tanzania is that you can get access as reliable as and as high speed as any connection you could get in Europe," said John Tumelty, the general manager of Mobitel which provides businesses like Anna Mbattah's with a wireless service.
now, if only i could get broadband 10 miles from a major metropolitan area.

That translates to 1 cent per minute.
Hmmm, let me see, I connect using DSL, my two computers are online at least 30,000 hours a month. I pay $47.45 per month. If I was paying 1 cent per minute my monthly DSL bill would be $300.00 per month.

those are the prices at an internet cafe, not what youd pay an isp directly.

Only problem I see.. if your like me.. and leave your system online 24/7/365.. your looking at like $438 a month for internet service..
at the rates you stated.. $.30 for 30 min.. that means $.60 for an hour.. X 24 hours in a day.. X average of 365 days in a year.. / by 12 months.. gets you $438 a month..

... whoops...
Internet Cafe's here are like $2-$3 an hour..
If you buy the time in large lots.. you get a small discount..
Or even better.. pay $15 on a selected weekend and use it as much as you want from sat noon till mon at 6am..
