Thousands mourn Pakistani martyr

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Huge crowds in the Pakistani city of Quetta have been attending the funeral of Aimal Khan Kansi, who was executed in the United States on Friday.

Kansi, who is from Quetta, was executed for the murder of two US secret service officials outside the CIA headquarters near Washington in 1993.

Many in the crowd chanted anti-American slogans and proclaimed Kansi a martyr.

"I don't know who Kansi was, I only know that he was killed by America," Sadiq, a 20-year-old student told AFP.

I just thought the intense anti-American sentiment illustrated in this article was noteworthy. Accounts like this make me wonder if a war with the Muslim nations of the world isn't inevitable for America.

Nothing wrong with this thread, I just think it was a little serious for the General discussion forum. At least as far as thread potential goes.

Ok, why kill him NOW? That was 9 years ago. Making an example out of him against terrorism is just as bad as linch mob justice. And everyone sees it.

oh, its not inevitable.

A fascinating account of how US Secretary of State Colin Powell outmanoeuvred hawks in the administration who wanted an attack on Iraq without giving the UN a chance has been revealed in a book by veteran journalist Bob Woodward.

interesting that a military man is the rational one, yes? i dont agree with powells stances on many things, but i feel hed have made a decent president, its a shame he didnt run.
as long as bush/whoever listens to people other than the hawks, its not inevitable. but the outlook isnt good.

I don't know about inevitable, nothing is absolute when it comes to the human factor. That being said, I think it is highly probable that we will go to war with only a few Muslim countries (right now Iraq has the world's attention of course). I guarantee that militant Muslim Anti-American sympathizers will flock to the Theater of War by the tens, if not hundreds, of thousands should a full-scale ground war break out.

Yeah, it may seem like they are making an example out of him by executing him now, instead of right after he committed his crime, but spending 9 years on death row is far from unheard of.

Whatever the case, its a good thing that this scum bag was finally put to death. His crime certainly warranted it.

serves him right, though it shouldnt have taken that long to execute him.
