after all discounts from my work place and including Dell disounts, total cost would be $894.00. I already have a monitor, the one that comes with the Dell system I would give to my wife.
Now I noticed Alien Computer Systems use better components but much higher price. Just wondering does anyone have a Alien System? And if so, how is it?

Is building one yourself an option?

Someone in my dorm has a Alienware. He got it last year and about 2 weeks ago the fan on his video card went nuts and started making a lot of noise. It was a GeForce 3 Ti 200. He called Alienware and then Alienware sent him a GeForce 4 Ti 4400 because they said they didn't have anymore GeForce 3s
But when you bought it, the system was top of the line P4 1.8, 80 gig, and it cost him about US 3000

Alienware really isnt worth it. They are way overpriced.
You should go for the premium audio, preferably the Soundblaster Audigy 2 or at least the Soundblaster Live! 5.1 card. Your gonna want at least a desent sound card if your getting a Ti 4200.
If your comfortable with a 1 year warranty from a manufacutred PC, that is fine, although I would go with at least a 2 year.

that sounds like a damn good price for the dell. you probably would not be able to get a similar set up from alienware for twice that amount.

I have only heard good things about Alienware PC's Tweaker. They are however high priced.
The best option to me is building my own. If I had to buy a pre-built though, I would go with one from a website that lets you choose the components. Better price and you know what's under the hood before you buy.

Thanks for the input everyone, I will probably hold off for now and give it some more thought.

As for pricing, it's always a good thought about building your own until you decide to buy a new operating system. As for the components, you can build them for cheaper and know exactly how it was put together.
As for Dell and Alienware... IF I had to buy a prebuilt system, it'd definetly be either one, though personally I'd like the alienware PC more, for the fact that I have more options available than Dell. But that's my opinion, if you're not wanting to venture into building your own, go with what suits the wallet more than the ability.. IF you're wanting a purebred gaming machine alienware is a nice choice, if you're looking for something a bit more into the multi-role department, and aren't totally establish on gaming alone (like me ) then go with the dell. Or even check around other retailers, there are some nice retailers out there like the makers of those falcon PC's and stuff like that.. The one's I'd avoid are compaq's and gateways, my opinion mostly, but little less popular ones I'd also avoid are definetly emachines, HP's, Systemax (nothing but ripoffs there) and other sorts. Do a little research and find out what's good for you.
As for now, have fun and make the right decision for you, not for them.

Decided on a Dell, after all the rebates and work discounts it ended up cheaper.
System: P4 2.4 Gig w\monitor
512 RD ram
64 meg Geforce4 ti4200
120 meg hd 7200 w\ data burst cache

Total cost after rebates:
$934.00 out the door.
Thanks again for all the input.

Only a few are. Many of them come with a program that clocks them at the Ti 4200 64mb speeds. You can choose if you want to or not, and it does not void your warranty.
