Linksys VPN Router (BEFVP41)?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I was wondering if anyone could direct me to the best step by step guide for setting up a VPN connection with the Linksys VPN Router (BEFVP41)?

My goal is to be able to use a dial up with my laptop while on the road. I want to connect to my home PC using a VPN. I have cable internet access at home. And I'm using the VPN Router BEFVP41 between the cable modem and my home network.

In advance... Thanks for the help and suggestions

So far no luck. I can only make a vpn connection if I put the local IP in the DMZ. I might as well return the router if I have to use the dmz!!!

Well I'll keep pluging away at it.

On the laptop which has a dial up connection to the internet. When I try to make the VPN connection I get the following error message.

Error 678 There was No Answer....

I can ping the wan address

But just will not allow the vpn unless I put it in the DMZ.

Please post any suggestions!

Thanks

I've been trying Linksys Tech Support....

Geeeezzzz

Why Me?

They had me add some port fowarding:

1723

137, 138, 139

It still only works if you put it in the dmz.

Just a side note......most VPN solutions recommend not being behind a firewall at all. Which would be why you have more luck when placing the machine in your DMZ. Also, you may wanna check to see if your router uses PPTP or IPSEC for VPN.....either way you need special protocol mappings for those.
