ok my computer is going kind of wacky and its been awhile before i have formatted so i need to do it soon. whenever i try to format i put my system recovery disc in my cd-rom drive and it takes me to the screen then says Can't find drive Z (it looks like a z but it may be a 2) then it says abort, retry, fail. i try every single one of those and it wont let me get through. i disconnected my cd burner which i put the recovery disc in because my other cd rom drive wont read it for some reason (i found this out after i disconnected the cd burner drive.) i have nooo idea what to do and i was hoping if any of you could help probably not though i will probably have to call sony huh? heres my specs (my computer is old and sucks! )
Processor - Pentium II 266MHz (L1 cache: 32.0 Kb, L2 cache: 512.0 Kb) Ext.clock: 66MHz
Memory - 160 Mb (163 336 Kb) DIMM1: 32 Mb DIMM2: 128 Mb
CD-ROM - SONY CD-ROM CDU611(G HP CD-Writer+ 8200a(D
Video - RAGE PRO TURBO AGP 2X (English): 800 x 600 - High Color (16 bit)

if you need any more info about it i will put it up, thanks for your help

can anyone help?

if you only have a system recovery disc that doesn't work and you do not have your windows cd and/or boot disc depending on which os you are running, i think the thing to do would be to contact Sony.

well the cd was working before :/

Hmm, okay it might sound dumb, but when was the last time you cleaned your CD drive?

Posted by: iicanceii

well it actually is very dusty but i like blew in it and cleaned off the extension, should i actually like take it out and clean it?

Posted by: Canis Lupus

You should try using a CD cleaner on it ... you can buy cheap CD cleaning kits at most computer stores (you usually just put in the CD cleaner and let it spin in the drive) ... it's worth a try before calling up Sony
