I took my kids PC back to where I bought it and they said they couldnt fix it so they gave me a brand new system. The problem now is that the old PC had Win.98 SE on it and this new one has Win. XP on it and a big part of his games that he plays will not work with XP.My question is can I put Win. 98 SE back on this one without removing XP becuase they gave me a new warranty with this one also and I am afraid if I format and install 98 that I wont be able to get it back to XP if I need to.The new system has 2 restore disk's with it but I dont if they will do a clean XP install or not.The new one they gave me is an

Emachine
1.7 Ghz Celeron
40 Gig HD
128 Mg DDR
56X C D Rom

Old PC was

NEC
AMD K-6 2 450 Mhz
13.0 Gig HD
64 Mg Sdram
40 X C D Rom

I think that it was a pretty good trade but I would like for him to be able to play his old games and keep the warranty in good standing.Thanks.........Troubled

I'm not going to make claims one way or the other about Windows XP, except to say that I have personally had HELL upgrading from win98 to XP. I would NOT recomend putting windows 98 back on your computer.

There is a win98 emulator on windows XP that allows you to tell it to behave like win98 when running certain apps. It works EXACTLY like the original 98 except it is more stable. There should be steps for using it in the help file under something like "simulating a Windows 98 environment". You can even tell the whole operating system to behave like windows 98 and it will, except that all the XP features will still be accessable too.

Additionally, WindowsXP is almost impossible to corrupt, and has far more powerful troubleshooting tools just in case problems do arise.

So no, don't put windows 98 back on there because....well, why would you?.

P.S.
That was one Godly upgrade for free...

no, you wont void any hardware warranty by formatting and changing os if you so desire. if there is a software warranty, you may be voiding that.
but, i would suggest as above, that you run xp in emulation mode. you shouldnt have any problems.

Dual booting is nice.
You should try it, it would work nicely.
Tho you'll have to make sure the drives current partition is FAT32, and not NTFS.

And Bored, 98 can run most DOS based games, XP can only run a few. Fragile Alligence, is a prime example. The DOS emulator in XP = tehsux.

I think I can....well, no I CAN'T remember the last time I played a DOS based game. Oh well. I say go get some new games and just make a clean break...
