Let's just say this. Paul.p911, that may be your opinion. However, it is wrong. Millions of Macintosh and Unix-flavored OS users would disagree with you, since they use live, fairly bug-free operating systems. Half the Windows-using world would disagree with you as well, after their experiences with multiple bugs and failures in Win2000 and XP.

Unfortuantely for your argument, the facts do not support you.
Of course Mac and *nix users would disagree. That is stating the obvious. However, surveys have shown that the majority of Americans (can't say worldwide, haven't seen worldwide surveys) are satisfied with Microsoft and their products. I've seen numbers for MS tech support, and even the people who call in with problems, most of them are overall satisfied with MS, and also satisfied with the product. (This is for Windows 2000 specifically.)
And also, most of the problems on these forums are with desktop systems or workstations. Paul.p911 was referring to MS operating systems. When it comes to the desktop, Mac/*nix aren't even remotely significant. So, there's really no need to say something like: your opinion is wrong. As a sidenote, you can say that you THINK his opinion is wrong, but then you're entitled to your opinion as well.

That's because 95% of people have no idea an OS works or even care for that matter. All people care about is whether or not their programs run. Which MS has the pants beaten off everyone there. In the short time I used Mandrake Linux, I was impressed with it. It's the lack of software for the platform that kills it.
I like Windows 2000, but if the trend goes towards more activation schemes and bloatware like XP, I'll never get the next Windows OS. I'm going to milk out Windows 2000 until it's no longer supported.

XP Pro doesn't have an activation scheme. Nor do I notice much bloatware.

First of all... It does have an activation scheme. UNLESS, you have a pirated volume license copy. And I guess bloatware all depends on how you define it.
Ion,
I pretty much agree with your earlier remarks. I REALLY like Mandrak Linux, also. But HDD space is always at a premium for me, so I usually remove it a few weeks after installing. None of my programs work on it, read: games.

Yep. Games are the only thing that keeps me using it.
