Crappy Frame rates .. Why?

Ok I have this system:

Proccesser: Pentium IV 1690MHz Ext.clock: 100MHz
Bios: AMIBIOS 070010 04/02/01(C)2001 American Megatrends Inc., All Rights Reserved (29-Jul-2002)
Board: M930LR ECS (Slot-1)
Memory: 512 Mb (523 760 Kb) DIMM1: 512 Mb(3DRAM)
Video: NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 440 (64.0 Mb): 1024 x 768 - True Color (32 bit)
OS: Windows XP Home Edition U.S. English 5.1 (build 2600 Service Pack 1)

Now I'm not real sure what to use to test the video card. I do know that when I play D2 LOD I get sorry FPS. Using Direct Draw(2D) I get a sorry 20-40 FPS. If I try the Direct3d its worse and has alot of skipped frames. Is there something im missing or is this video board bad? Most people with systems not as new(P3's) get 75+ FPS

Have you updated all your drivers recently?

Diablo 2's Direct3D mode is a joke. They put it in late to accomidate other cards, its mainly designed for 3DFX Glide, which isnt even around anymore. Many people who play D2 just buy an old PCI Voodoo card and run the game off of it instead of using their main card.

The best thing to do is to run the game windowed. Edit the command line of the icon you use to start the game and put a -w in the Target box after the path.
