B.net is goin down in flames and takin many users with it (including me)

i am getting pissed at b.net and blizzard. Their tech support is terrible and b.net is doin not so well. i cannot stay on diablo 2 xpan for more than 5 games w/o gettin kicked off. i know many others share my woes

Battle.net is free you know, paying for the game doesn't mean you pay for the bnet service.

i may sound crazy to many ppl but this is me. if i were at b.net i would be concerned. ppl are leavin by the hundreds evryday and turning to everquest and other koo games like dat for their real-time rpg fun. i want this madness to end. ill do w/e to help it out

Blizzard already has your money. It makes no difference to them if you leave. In fact, it would save them money, since they don't have to cover the costs of the bandwidth you use up.

I can usually play for hours without any real problems.
I play on Europe though, you're probably on one of those crappy US servers.

Actually they should be worried about this, if they lose so many peoples support where are they going to turn for a market to make up for the losses? Oh wait nm the X-box and PS2.

dood, blizaard is a true comp company. when sc came out on nintendo 64, people looked at it and shrugged, and the comp players looked at it and barfed (including me, but i also laffed a bit). how are they gonna make up losses in a genre where they already lost the market?

The console market is a magnitude larger than the PC market. It's also more profitable.

Doesn't matter. It's still less profitable. Software piracy is one reason. It's not quite as easy to pirate console games.

that is exactly why people turn to consoles.... it's a lot cheaper than PCs in that a console all you need is the console, game, a couple of control pads, guns, and driving kit. and you don't have to upgrade the system like every 6 months or so just to play the latest game.

I've pretty much switched to Xbox because of those reasons. PCs games in the last 6 or more months have just plain sucked. I haven't actually sat down at my PC and played a game for more than 30 mins in the last 2 months.
I ended up clearing out my PC game shelf and only keep a few games I really liked. There was no one interesting to play on Xbox Live the other night so I ended up playing a game of Total Annihilation, which I haven't played in like 2 years.
Blizzard has moved on from b.net. You probably won't see anymore patches for D2 or SC. WarIII will still be updated for a few months, but they've moved on to whatever their new projects are. Mostly likely investing a lot of development to Worlds of Warcraft.

Amen Tecil! All games for the PC lately have sucked. I'm wondering about Tribunal though. I had my sister get it for my dad for Christmas, so I'm waiting on that. Personally, I'd rather play console games. When it comes to PC gaming, right now I've worn out all of my PC games, so I go back and play Bandit Kings of Ancient China, which is old back from 1989, but still fun to me. I like strategy. I've gotten tired of D2 really quick because I've found all of the items, so really there is no point for me to play it anymore. I didn't even bother with WF or Griswold set, I had an easier time finding Arkaine's and Gladiator's Bane.
All in all, I still like bnet, but there are no games I want to play on there for the moment. Having a cable modem really made a difference from dialup. I no longer get kicked off every 5 minutes or when a necro comes into the game.
I hope they come out with some good PC games and soon..then again when you have a p3 500mhz and all the games are in the higher end p3's nowadays...it kinda sucks to play...imagine running Morrowind on my comp. I can't watch the intro, and the game gets really slow from time to time, but overall it's pretty smooth. Having a GEforce 4 helps I guess.

who cares i dunno if any of you followed the command and conquer set of games (RED ALERT Tiberian Sun etc. etc.) they provided a free service for a long time that just went down hill for a long time... then finally crashed i dunno if the servers are still up but last time i checked they sucked so bad you might as well not be on... this will not happen to b.net because blizzard relies on b.net to keep their games alive so right b4 they release their next game BOOM they are gonna advertise B.net... im sure of it... all marketing...

I personally don't do all that much online gaming outside of Blizzard games. But I have to agree, everything is pretty much going online these days. I wouldn't be surprised if single player was totally wiped out. I know that's almost impossible, but God knows with PC gaming anymore. I was totally shocked that Morrowind didn't have online gaming capabilities.

Bnet is dead. Why? Spamming, hacking, bots, abusiveness, mass overloads of players, game glitches, constant freezes and hiccups, all these and more are the cause of bnet's demise. The sheer popularity of bnet was its eventual demise, with diablo and starcraft selling in the millions of copies. This was a craze that was greater than even blizzard had anticipated for, and they just couldnt keep up. When diablo 2 was first released, it caused a mass fenzy across the gaming world, with shops being sold out for weeks on end. In its glory days (late 1999-early 2001), bnet was a juggurnaut, the kind that every game devoloper and publisher in the world looked up to. It set new industry standards for companies to aspire, and skyrocketed blizzard to the top of the gaming industry. But unlike sony and everquest, blizzards policy of free online gaming led to little or no staff constantly monitoring the channels, with little help for the stranded masses. This is were weakness began to show, as people became less respectful of battlenet and its users. Bnet is now just a degenerated mass of slop that has been destroyed by its own popularity. Its a shame really that one of the gaming industies most influential icons is slowly decaying into oblivion. Oh how the mighty fall.

I've upgraded mine several times, i've done wipes, removed old hardware and installed new stuff, and i still have memory problems

If you dont like bnet/bliz thats your opinion, but no one really cares if you dislike it or not. If you really hate bnet/bliz try something else. There are other games then the 4 bnet games that blizz has made. Go to some other online gaming server and you will more than likely see the same things wrong. If you dont like the spammers, but still like the game either play tcp/ip with your friends or single player. Try some other developer. Baldurs Gate is a good game and so is Nox, though they take more strategy then beat the crap outtas of the enemies with your guy that is basically immortal, except dies inevitably to lightning enchanted creatures. I agree that Battle.net is not as good as it used to be, but if and when i get DSL i will be litterally glued to battle.net. So just go away from blizzard and pretend you never happened across it. I havent been online in about a month and i am getting along fine. So can you. Hell there are some people who are so unfortunate that they dont even have the internet, and some even dont have a computer.

turk makes many good points but i dont really think that is what people are concerned about i think they were just stating the fact that Bnet isnt as good as it used to be,

cable is so much better... i mean everyone has their own opinions but if you live in a typical suburban area cable is soooooo much faster than DSL
DSL 150 all the time...
Cable above 150 all the time...
i mean there are special cases but cable kicks DSL's ass...

I have cable, and since the area I'm in doesn't have many cable users, it kicks ass. My cousin finally got DSL for Xmas, and he's lovin every minute of it. But of course, almost anything is better than dialup.

In response to single player being wiped out completely... never, that is what makes a game especially with RTS and RPG, hell every RTS and RPG we've bought has been for the single, now MMORPGs I could like, because the server should be well done and stable, oh and they recently bought out a patch for D2 which gets rid of a lot of the dropping problems. Normally if you're having probs with stuff like that the best person to talk to is GFraizer on the B.net forums.
