Buying a CD-R/RW
(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Well, since my CD-RW got ****ed up, I'm buying a new one.
Here are my two options:
Artec 48x12x48x Internal EIDE CDRW ($49.99)
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicat...u=A451-2020%20p
or
Sony 48x 24x 48x Internal EIDE CD-RW ($79.99)
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicat...u=s167-3084%20p
Is the price difference really worth it?

why are those your only options? i find it hard to believe there is nothing between the two.

I'd go for Plextor or Lite-On, depending on your budget.
Definitely not a Philips.

Have a look at the Lite On 52x24x52 CDRW Model LTR-52246 at newegg.com, its $71(OEM, $76 for retail). Lite On is probably one of the best brands of CDR/RW on the market.
Heres all the ones newegg carries:

EDIT: Plextor is the top brand, but they arent cheap.

out of those 2 choices, i would buy the Artec simply because it comes with Nero. if i had more to choose from i would buy a Lite-On burner though.

Those are my two choices because I trust TigerDirect.com and I've never bought at NewEgg.com. I already have Nero so software is not of the essence. What exactly does Lite-On mean by the way? Is that a company? Suggest any CD-RWs (from good, trusted companies) but under $80.

Newegg.com is probably the best site I have ever ordered anything from. TigerDirect seems to have some real problems, just check out resellerratings
TigerDirect scores a 4.3/10 and Newegg scores a 9.58/10.
I would suggest getting that Lite On 52x24x52 CDRW from Newegg.

Ok, I'll give it a shot, I'm trusting you.

Wait, price is also important. I need a good burner that works not only for burning music and VCDs(SVCDs), but for copying .bins of games and apps, but not very expensive. Speed is not important to me as long as its 20x or above. Help me choose?

Lite On 48x24x48 CDRW Model LTR-48246S Retail - $57.99
Lite On 52x24x52 CDRW Model LTR-52246 Retail - $76.00
And free shipping on both. Both those drives are reall fast and also pretty cheap.

Are you sure both have DAO and RAW and all that shit I need for burning .bins well and stuff? I'm pretty much a newbie on this subject so I have to rely on you guys... I'm thinking the cheapest one since speed is perfect, I don't need faster than that.

Innovated SMART-BURN® technology to automatically check media quality and set limit to burning speed to ensure successful writing sessions & data retainability (*1)

Why does that sound like *NO BURNING WAREZ* to me?
Posted by: redwench
dunno, because thats not what it means.
if you want to know prices, brands, and sellers: www.pricewatch.com
sticking with one retailer without checking prices is rather foolish, although im sure we all have our prefered suppliers given competitive prices.

It means the burning speed will automaticly be lowered when you're using those cheap crappy no-name CDR's that can't handle real speeds. I don't see what this got to do with warez either.

I dunno it looked a bit suspicious...

I would definitly go for the Lite-On drive if I were in the market. I've been getting all my upgrades at newegg.com for the past year and they've been fantastic. Lite-On has one of the best reputations and, if I'm not mistaken, also comes with a copy of Nero.
