2002 Game of The Year?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Well, I was going to make a big poll for everyone to vote on, but considering I really didnt know what Xbox games were big this year (seems like there werent any), I decided to just make this a reply based poll so I could eliminate the standard "why the hell isnt (insert game here) an option?!"

Anyways,

Timesplitters 2 gets my vote for game of the year. The game features the most addicitive multiplayer mode in a game since Goldeneye (FPS or otherwise) as well as an insane amount of unlockable modes, characters and just general stuff. There are tons of challenges on top of a solid single player campaign (which is tougher than hell) to insure that you'll be playing the game for months and months. To top it all off, you get an amazingly simple yet complex mapmaker tool that alows you to either recreate your favorite levels from past games (goldeneye) or make some new and really kick ass level designs of your own. All in all, this game has what alot of newer games on next gen systems lack-- replay value. Not since Goldeneye on the N64 have I stayed up all night playing a 4 player match with friends only to have me fire up the single player game once they all left at 8am.

Runners up for game of the year--

Super Mario Sunshine
Metroid Prime

Well for me, MechAssault for XBox. It wasn't the best game I ever played, but it is fun. A bit too short on the single player game, but has decent multiplayer over xbox live. The short list of releases is what made this one the best for me. I may upgrade its rating depending on what kind of content MS releases for it over the Live service.

For PC, I can't really say since I only baught about 3 games for it. I would probably have to say Dungeon Siege. It was cool for a couple months even though I couldn't even stomach playing it now.

Anyway, a lot of the games I been playing the most are over at least a year old.

My favorite game for the year for GC would have to be Timespliters 2 as well, its a great game, even though it was to short and the story was kinda lame, it was still a great FPS shooter with alot of stuff you said AK.

Xbox for me is dead to rights, it was just fun

And for PS2 id say LOTR two towers, really good game, and the graphics are great considering the PS2 is older then the GC or Xbox.

Kingdom Hearts for PS2

I think we could name these awards the Uninformed Gamer's Awards for 2002.

It's a tie between Metroid Fusion and Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance.

I don't think anything is worth a runner up title, but honorable mentions to Metroid Prime. Had that game been a little more polished, and have some of the annoyances worked out of it, it could have easily snagged my game of the year award.

Posted by: AK47

I heard fusion was insanely short.

How long did you take to blow through it?

Posted by: Null Actor

Four and a half hours first try, but that was with only 45% items.

Game length is an artificial measurement of how good a game is.

Posted by: AltronHGX

Word. I've beaten Metal Gear Solid 2 in under 5 hours and you don't hear anyone calling that a bad game ~

Posted by: Canis Lupus

You beat it in 5 hours the first time you played it? Or was it the second time you played it? In that case, that signifies replayability - which is another thing altogether...

Posted by: AltronHGX

Ummm, 8th or 9th time. Yes that game definately has replayability. Takes some practice skipping through all the cut scenes (No matter how good they may be).

But the first time I played it I didn't play it again for a while until I realized after skipping the cut scenes that "Hey this is pretty short! I should get all the dog tags!"
That put a LOT of life back into the game for me.

You just have to get used to skipping all the dialogue and cinemas. (No matter how much you want to see the part that happens after you, uh, escort someone accross a bunch of beams on top of water.

I'm not exaggerating at all, but skipping ALL of the cutscenes and dialogue easilly cuts literally 10+ hours off of your play time.

what the hell do u mean bye that cheese

I mean you picked a random XBox game and then you said it sucked.

Zelda comes out next year.

Gran Turismo 3: A-spec came out last year...

I'd have to pick Morrowind as my favourite console game. Vice City would be a close second.

Edit: Never looked at the sub-forum Nova

Console games.

Halo for Xbox was one hell of a game

Posted by: Null Actor

It was also not released this year.

It's still one hell of a game .

back on topic please

Kingdom Hearts looks really good, and I will let you know if it deserves game of the year in 9 days

Posted by: Null Actor

It doesn't.

I wanted to vote Vice City as game of the year but it fell really short of what I was expecting. I would vote Morrowind as mine. I still haven't finished that damn game, but then again I'm in no hurry to.
