I'm hoping to hook up my Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8000 cable box to my PC. I want to be able to put some HIGH quality clips on my pc and mess around with Macromedia Director. Anyway, the cable box has 2 firewire ports, a usb port, rca out ports, and s-video out. I really want to find a way to get the best quality transferred to my PC. I tried the RCA ports and the audio was completley off sync w/ the video. The 1394 ports don't show up on my pc. does anyone know anything about these cable boxes and can you hook them up together? Would s-video be the best way to copy video over? Any suggestions?
THANKS!

No one's ignoring you, so please be patient ... you have to take into account that it's a Sunday, and besides, it was just less than six hours ago since you last asked this question...
If I knew the answer to that, I would have given it...

I did some digging and I discovered a site with solid information on S-Video. It appears that there is a statistically sound basis for the S-Video option. It offers high-quality visual information and steers clear of some short-comings of its predecessors, such as that annoying color-bleed that occurs with high-saturation colors (this is assuming that your display device is sufficient to avoid these things also).
As for Firewire, all I could find is that the Firewire option supports Digital Video. Solid numbers aren't readily available (i.e. on the first page of a Google search) so I'm not sure where the DV option stands in comparison to the S-Video standard. However, Digital Video seems to be the standard of quality for many new camcorders but the standard for output on these 'corders consistantly includes S-Video. So I would say it is safe to assume that S-Video will support at least the level of quality that DV provides. I have no proof for that however, it's an assumption.
I would go with S-Video.

I believe that with the firewire, it won't show up under My computer as if it were a firewire HD. Instead u probably would need a program to captures from firewire, IE Adobe Premiere.... The Svideo should work as well. I believe the longer the svideo cable, the worse the picture will be...

When I connect the firewire cable from the cable box to my pc, it dosen't pick up any new hardware. Do you think that the firewire port on the cable box isn't meant for this or is there software I can use to access it?

With the digital video recorder that i use, it never pops up and say that its found a new device, it just shows up in the program...
