2002 Net Trends Zeitgeist

Zeitgeist: The spirit of the time; the general intellectual and moral state or temper characteristic of any period of time.
Google has published their "2002 Year-End Zeitgeist" list. This list shows the top web searches, broken down into categories and by country. It's a good way to see where the web-using community stands, culturally and globally. As part of the zeitgeist, Google published a "what's in/what's out" list, with Spiderman, Avril Lavigne, Eminem, Star Wars, and Warcraft III on the "in" list and "All Your Base," Napster, Anthrax, Angelina Jolie, and the Taliban on the "out" list. Lycos has published their 2002 Web's Most Wanted list as well, with slightly different results. Lycos' top ten:
1. Dragonball
2. KaZaA
3. Tattoos
4. Britney Spears
5. Morpheus
6. NFL
7. IRS
8. Halloween
9. Christmas
10. Pamela Anderson
Guess this gives us a decent idea of what's important to the web-using community!
