Switching Hard drives

Ok, I just found a crappy old p100 packard bell machine.

It has a 1.0gig hd with windows 95 installed on it.

I have an old 1.2 gig hd from my old 133 that has windows 98 fully installed on it.

I want to know how would I go about using my old hard drive with this new machine.

I tried just unplugging the old and starting up the machine with the 98 installed HD, but that didnt work-- it kept asking for me to replace the old one.

Anyone know how I successfully do this, if its at all possible?

Thanks

AK,

You want to put the Win98 HD on the Pent 100 computer right?

First, did you go into the Pent. 100's bios and either do autodetect on the hd or key in the HD's information (sectors,hds..)?

Second, was this a primary drive? Is the hard drive marked as primary or is the hard drive sharing a cable with the cd-rom?

1- yes, I have it set for autodetect

2- this is a primary drive.

I hook up the 98 hd and as the system is booting, it tells me to replace the disc.

It just doesnt work with the 98 hd.

It has been a while, but I think there was a HD size limit on some earlier bioses. Could be wrong, but I thought the 1.2 Gig is where some bioses had limitations and you had to use the diskmanager software.

Have you tried removing all extra IDE devices, going into the bios and keying in the HD information to make sure it was correct and see if the Disk size shows up correctly?

If it doesn't show up correctly, then I would say the bios will not support the larger HD and you have to use the Diskmanager software. FDisk is the other option.

Can you get the HD to be a secondary drive in the same machine? Boot with the win95 and have the win98 as a secondary drive?
