OK i know this question has SEMI been asked but not really specificly enough to help me.

here is my system info
  • Pentium IV 1600MHz
  • RAM: 256 Mb (261 596 Kb) RIMM1: 128 Mb RIMM2: 128 Mb
  • I have plenty of free space on my HD
  • CD DRIVES: TOSHIBA DVD-ROM SD-M1612 /// LITE-ON LTR-16102B (TWO DRIVES)
  • VIDEO: NVIDIA GeForce2 MX/MX 400 (64.0 Mb): 1280 x 1024 - High Color (16 bit)
  • SOUND: Microsoft WINMM WDM Audio Compatibility Driver
  • OS: Windows 2000 Professional U.S. English 5.0

I know i have a crappy build of Windows (2k Pro.) and im thinking this could be a major part of what the problem is

My problem...

I can install Warcraft III no problem but when i attempt to play it (by clicking on the autorun start option) the loading screen pops up and it freezes there.

When I go into my HD and click on the .exe's to play either nothing happens or i get a "Please insert CD-Rom" kind of message

What I have observed...

When i look in my HD at the files:
War3.exe has NO icon and cannot be opened i click and nothing happens...
BUT
Warcraft III.exe DOES have an icon and when i click it is when I get the NO CD message

What I have done so far...

Honestly i dont know EVERYTHING ive done so far because i have done ALOT but i have done all the typical things like defrag/scandisk, reinstall like 20 times, I patched, run video tests and a whole bunch of other things listed in Blizzards support secton for WC3

Im fairly sure it is not my Video card because I passed the video test provided by Blizzard

Sound it could be but i find that bery unlikely because the symptoms dont match up

I meet all the System requirements and then some

What I think is wrong

I think that maybe my OS cant handle it
or possibly because my computer is networked (not with other computers but has user's with there own login) and that is why it is not working any thoughts would be greatly appreciated

So please help me, thank you.

P.S. Im calling blizzard tech tommorow because it is semi-local so i will try to combine thoughts from both locations is possible (if i can even talk to a live person stupid automated telephone blizzard lol)

Well i really want to play this game and ive been wanting it for quite some time so please help me get it working

First off, you could try downloading the latest drivers for your hardware. The GeForce 2 you have there is a possible problem. I would recommend trying to d/l the latest drivers first then post back with the results.

Thank you for that advice but actually i allready have updated my drivers that was another one of the things i have done in trying to make this game work

It's not your OS, chief. If you are using 2k Pro, then you have (by far) the best build of Windows there is to be had. Warcraft 3 runs perfectly on this operating system, I assure you.

I'm sure you have all the latest drivers, and all the latest version of DirectX, blah blah blah, so that doesn't leave us with a very good starting point (your computer being networked shouldn't have anything to do with it). The only situation I have encountered that is similar came with Starcraft, with everything installing fine, having all drivers for my hardware, but when I put the disc in it would freeze at autoplay. I couldn't manually check through Windows explorer, because attempting to also locked up the system.

My solution? I replaced the disc, and it worked fine. I really doubt you have any hardware conflicts, and it usually isn't a driver issue. See if you can find someone else's CD, say, a friend's, and try his in your machine.

Post back.

thank you gunslinger i havent been able to try that solution yet but thank you for clearing up some of my doubts about win 2k pro.

I will call Blilzzard and request a new disc and have mine replaced... thanks again

I have now called Blizzard Tech Support and the guy "narrowed it down" right away and said he was gonna send me a file in the email that would fix my problem... well guess what... i never got that file... im a lil perturbed he should have sent it right away so once again im going to wait and call them sit on hold then talk to the guy again hopefully its the same guy and he remembers...

he said that i needed some sort of patch thing i dont exactly remember what he said but its not the regular patch for the game that other have recommended and i have tried, but when i get it i have to open end replace files so FUN FUN FUN...

I noticed that you make no mention of downloading the W3 1.04 patch. Diablo II: Lord of Destruction requires the 1.09d patch be downloaded and run before the executable will recognize the disk. Maybe there is a similar situation here. Jussa suggestion, yo!

blizzard representatives are very busy, im afraid. the rep answering the phone would probably just flag the information for later. no doubt youre on the list of outgoing mail, but dont expect it until next week at the earliest. they dont work weekends, and next week is a holiday week. youll just have to be patient.

Posted by: Iownyourmom

i have allready tried that patch but thanks for the suggestion

Yeah i know they are busy but i mean still it is just an email with an attachment, i figured that if it was instantly sent it would be sent at the end of the day in a mailing list but alas no such luck, ill just call back as soon as possible and check up on them, im in a semi hurry because if my game doesnt work i dont want to lose my money im gonna take it back and invest in something else...

Posted by: Iownyourmom

i was thinking last night "why dont i download and run the WC3 demo and see if it runs" and sure enough it did so therfore it will work on my system which is good news and might i say i fell in love with the game once again... so tommorow im gonna call and talk to Blizzard tech and ask request that file and stuff make sure they send it and if i dont get it when he says im getting it im gonna talk to his manager

Just thought Id inform you that your not alone. I am curretnly having the exact same detail and my system specs are different in all but one way Windows 2000 professional. I also have the demo up and running. Its so infuriating to know that it would run if my PC could read the goddamn CD. If you find a solution I would be gratefull if you could post it and Ill do the same If I find a solution.

Try this:

Uninstall Warcraft III.
Go to http://www.blizzard.com/patches and download the latest version of the Warcraft III patch.
Install Warcraft III.

Posted by: Iownyourmom

thanks Shalome but i have tried that mulitiple times, that is also what the tech support guy from blizzard told me to do... since last time i posted in here i got a new disc for WCIII and that has made no diffrence so i just have to find someone to sell/give it to...

Posted by: Iownyourmom

HEY GUESS WHAT! i got WCIII to work, but not really, i had to download the file War3.exe from someone else and replace mine with it, I was wondering if anyone knew if this has the oter persons CD-Key in it? because im afraid to try to access the net with it, i dont think it will let me anyways... so if anyone knows please share... i dont feel bad about using this War3.exe file because i did purchase the game legally and this is just a means of getting it to work... so im semi happy but WCIII isnt the same without B.net...
