I received AOM for Xmas. I have tried downloading it and it continues to run extremely slow. It also takes forever to download. I went to Microsoft tech support and updated all my drivers and installed directX 9.0. To make it short and sweet everything they said to do I did and still no joy. It seems that everyone is having some sort of problem with this game. Are there any suggestions out there? I have a 700 mghz computer with a celeron chip 192 RAM.
Nvidea TNT graphics card. These all exceed expectations of this game.

For Age of Mythology, a 16 MB 3D video card is required; 32 MB video card is recommended as the minimum. The TNT card you've got doesn't quite measure up -- it's so old that even Nvidia calls it a "legacy product." Your 192MB of RAM isn't helping either -- although the game only requires 128 to run, you'll need at least 256 to play well.
You barely have the minimum requirements of RAM and video card power to run the game -- that's why its so slow for you. The minimum requirements is the absolute bottom line of what it takes to run the game at all -- not to run it well.
I'd suggest taking any leftover Christmas cash and investing in a nice GeForce4 or similar. If you can't afford the $170 it costs at Best Buy, you could always pick up an ATI Radeon 7500 for about $75. That's what I'm running, and it's not top of the line, but you'll notice a major difference in your gameplay.

On another forum here in australia there have been a number of posts regarding direct X 9.0 as well. It is apparently really buggy and not worth the effort, although as AOM has had a 1.02 patch brought out for it and is made by microsoft this may not be as big a problem as it would be for other games.
