I have problems playing continuum. I can't connect to the servers.
I could before when I had dial up, but since I got dsl and was networked through a router, I can't play anymore.
anyone know why?

funny...i thought he was talking about the game Continuum. http://www.subspace.net/

I didn't see anything in that site that could help me. Well, there was one thing that may have been helpful, but i didn't understand what it was saying.

I couldn't find anything to elp me at the main site. It also seems to be down right now.

Sorry Quack0rz, my fault. Did not see you were referring to a game.

What brand of router are you using? Did it come with a manual? There should be instructions there on how to open up ports and stuff.
Actually, there was a topic just below the one you posted. Have you checked it?
http://www.ssforum.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1529
In any case, let us know what brand of router you're using so we can direct you to an online manual, if you do not have a manual for it in hand...

Yeah. I was having problems in other games like WC3, but I fixed that by setting up a virtual server with the ports it needed.
My brand of router is smc (crappy) and it didn't come with a manuel.

I was reviewing your progress on that other forum, and I will try to append this answer to your recent question there...

Subspace uses different ports depending on the person who runs the server. I will quote one of the posts in that forum for clarification:

each zone uses its own ports, which you can find listed in the zone.dat in your Continuum directory, or if you right click on a zone name while in Continuum. The zone uses the listed port and the listed port + 1. For instance, my zone uses 14000, so therefore it also uses 14001. And yes, all Continuum protocol is done strictly in UDP.

Since you mentioned in your topic there that you found an online manual for your router, just determine the ports for the zones you're trying to join and configure your router to allow UDP through them.
Hope this helps a bit...

Thanks! I'll try that. I didn't know that it used the listed port + 1. I'll attempt it and see how it goes.
Hmm. I am unable to open zone.dat, so I dont know how to find the ports.

Unable to open it? Are you just double clicking on it? Try starting up Wordpad and use it to open that file...
Also, have you tried right-clicking on the zones listed?
Posted by: Quack0rz
I've found the port of the zone I use (5400) so when I set it up in my router to have that plus 5401 open and udp nothing happend except now I can't connect to continuum at all.

Hmmm, I'm wholly unfamiliar with how your SMC router works, so I dunno what else to suggest at this point ... but if you have a DMZ feature on your router, just enable it when you're playing and you should be good...
Posted by: Quack0rz
Even if the DMZ can only be enabled by enabling the firewall?
Posted by: Canis Lupus
DMZ actually isolates the internal IP address of the machine specified in it so that it won't be under the protection of the firewall.
Enabling DMZ on a particular IP address means you are disabling the firewall on that IP address...
Posted by: Quack0rz
Oooh. Ok. I think I get it now. Thanks, I'll try it right away
Posted by: Quack0rz
Hm. I tried doing that dmz thing that you said. But it wont work. I guess I'm doing it wrong. It askes me for the public IP address, so I put in the one of the zone which i want to play in, then it asks for Client PC IP Address, so I put in my last three nuumbers of my ip(Because it has the rest already)
No continuum zones will connect now

I think your public IP address is the one assigned to you by your DSL provider, and should be the IP address you see on the bottom right of your post in this forum, right next to "report this post to moderator" (don't worry, only you and I can see it).
Your Client IP address is the last three digits of your internal IP address, but I guess you already got that.
Try it again.

Ooh. I see. Thanks, I'll attempt once more again

HRM. =\ I think I just can't do this. Maybe I don't really know what I'm doing or something, or it's just out of my league.
Guess I'll just have to go without Continuum.
