What are the specs on your computer? What Operating System? What's your Video Card? How much RAM do you have?

Have you gone to Blizzard's site and downloaded the Warcraft III patch? Have you gone to the website for your video card manufacturer and downloaded the latest drivers?

Steps to identify your DirectX version:
Click on the Start button and select Run.
In the Open: field type in dxdiag and click the OK button.
When the DirectX Diagnostic Tool loads up you will see information about your computer. Near the bottom of the information should be the following field: DirectX Version: which will list what version you are currently running.
Check http://www.microsoft.com/directx/ho...ads/default.asp for the latest version of DirectX and update if necessary.

what are specs? whats a video card? whats a warcraft III patch...how do i get these things?

Posted by: Shalome

Specs is short for Specifications. Specifications are like "My computer has a 1.4 Gigahertz Pentium processor, with 512 megabytes of RAM, and a GeForce 4 Ti4200 video card with 128 megabytes of video RAM."

A video card is a graphics adapter card that goes inside your computer.

Please click here to read a simple way to find out your system specs. Once you find those and post them, it'll make troubleshooting your system a lot easier.

Here is where to download patches from Blizzard: http://www.blizzard.com/patches/

every time i try and open the program that gives the specs a download window will pop up for like 1 second then desipear and then do the same thing but the file never opens

Okay, what KIND of computer do you have? By "kind of computer," I mean Gateway, Dell, IBM, something else... tell us that and the model number.

Posted by: t547

Posted by: t547

oh yeah..its windows 98 (duh..)

Posted by: t547

Okay, here's the HP Pavilion product site. Go figure out which computer you have and let us know.

Windows 98 is an operating system.

is m45 a model number it is on the top right corner of my monitor

Posted by: Shalome

No, no it's not.

Posted by: t547

hmmmmm

Here's how to find your model number on an HP Pavilion Desktop PC:

Posted by: t547

what about 4450? is that a model number?

Posted by: t547

well i think i found the video card number i think its

4.10.01.2440

Posted by: Shalome

Nope. Dunno where you got that number or what it is, but here is the HP Pavilion PC Model 4450 specs:

http://h20015.www2.hp.com/en/docume...ocName=bph04902

Here's your video card information:
VGA graphics controller:
ATI Rage Pro Turbo with AGP2X
Video memory:
8 MB SDRAM dedicated

Here's the bare minimum requirements for Warcraft III:
8 MB 3D video card (TNT, i810, Voodoo 3, Rage 128 equivalent or better) with DirectX® 8.1 support

The ATI Rage Pro Turbo is a step or two behind the Rage 128. You're not going to be able to run the game, no matter what driver updates you get. You need a new video card.

Actually, very few of the specs on the HP Pavilion 4500 meet the Warcraft III requirements.

Posted by: t547

so a video card is something i actually have to remove from my computer and replace with a better one i can't download a better one?

Posted by: Shalome

You probably should get a whole new computer. A 400mHz processor just doesn't cut it anymore, and you only have 64MB of RAM.

Video cards, processors, and RAM are all hardware. YOu cannot download hardware. That's like saying "I'm thirsty, can I download a can of soda and drink it?"

Posted by: t547

lol...thats what i figured...thanks a bunch for ur help i apreciate your time

Now where have I seen this kind of mistake before?

Posted by: t547

so now what do i do? will the game work then?

Posted by: Shalome

No, you still don't meet all the requirements. And at 400mHz, which is the bare minimum to play Warcraft III, you're still going to have crashes and lockups and extremely choppy gameplay.

You also don't have enough RAM or a good enough video card. To run the game at all on your computer, you'll need to buy more RAM and a new video card.

Basically, you need a new computer.

Posted by: t547

dose starcraft have much lower requirements than warcraft III ?

Posted by: Outlaw

Yes, Starcraft should run fine on your pc.

Posted by: t547

ok, i already have the game i was just wondering thanks though

I am experiancing the same problem with the directX, i have a 600 Mhz processor, Voodoo3 video card, windows ME, plenty of room on the hard drive and 192 MB or RAM. I do have the right version of DirectX and it still gives me hell. Whats going on.
