source file in use

I scanned a picture and saved it as a .tif by accident. I just want to delete it. I had nothing open but the search engine. I right cliked and chose delete. it said cannot delete (filename.tif) access is denied. source file may be in use. help me!PLEASE.

Try rebooting your computer, then going into the directory where you saved the file, then deleting it.

tried it, I even shut down for 10 minutes and tried it again.
no luck.

What operating system?

What did you mean by "I had nothing open but the search engine"? When you boot up, make sure no extra programs are open, especially those pertaining to graphic editing.

Windows ME, and I mean there is no viewing or editing programs open. just my normal desktop and I clicked start>search>files or folders; then entered the name of the file. it showed up in the right hand side of the the search box. I right clicked, got that menu, chose delete. it asked if I was sure I wanted to send it to the recycle bin. I clicked yes and the error message appears.
