Weirdest prob I've EVER had... help?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Ok, this is gonna sound weird... but:

I'm currently running a win2K/winXP dual boot on a GA-7VAXP board, with an AMD XP 1800+ CPU and an ATI AIW radeon 8500DV vid card.. (I'll give more details if they're needed)

My issue is, whenever I chose XP from the boot menu, it takes about 3-4 minutes of looking at a black screen before the logon screen comes up. Then I can enter XP no sweat, no hassles. With the 2K section, no delays, everything is mint.

I don't have a clue even of where to start looking. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Daėmon

Hmmmmm, wow. Uh, my suggestion would be check the mobo manufacturer website and check for BIOS updates?? That's a toughie. . . .

Have you tried reinstalling XP?

just a guess but worth a try. go into device manager and under properties for your IDE channels, set it to "none" instead of auto for any that dont have drives. I had a similar problem once and that fixed it.

Yeah, I thought of that. But I'm currently running 6 drives, 3 HD's, and 3 roms.. (DVD, CD-RW, and a CD-ROM - the latter being for reading and installs and such, it's easier and cheaper to replace a cheapo CD-ROM than a burner or DVD...just saves wear and tear on the more expensive drives. They're all set to manual, nothing is on the empty IDE channels...

This time, I'm stumped....

Check some of the tips that Tweaker posted here:

There seem to be some that have to do with boot hangs, maybe one of them will help.
